Do you believe your EDD from your booking scan

Just had official booking scan and they have put me at 14 weeks and 5 days. Had scans at 7 weeks and 9 1/2 weeks and they both indicated I am now 14 and 1 days i.e. 4 days later than today's scan.

I plotted my ovulation like mad as trying for a girl after 2xDS and my temperature and ovulation tests sugggest I should be just 14 weeks today. If I am really 14 weeks and 5 days I had zero signs of ovulation and negative OKP results when apparently ovulating - is it possible to get a postivie ovulation result after you ovulate as I had one when I thought I was ovulating to make me 14 weeks today.

Friends are telling me earlier scans are more accurate as after 12 weeks growth varies alot.

Your friends are right. The optimum time for dating is 11-13 weeks. Having said that, your midwife will usually work out your EDD based on the dates of your last period - not ovulation. Then, if the scan dates don't tally the EDD will be adjusted IF there are more than 7 days disparity.

What was the first date of your last period?

i would go more on your dates because babies vary in size so how can edd be estimated through size of baby?

you know im a bit confused also im 23 weeks today but my GP today said i was 22 weeks and 4 days???????? i have a wonderful gadget on my phone that when i put my lP date it calculated it and today i am 23 weeks if my baby is due on the 27th jan - may not be many days but it matters alot to me! work it out yourself until otherwise dont worry! wait till your scan and then you'll know boy or girl? i have 2 DD and so wanted a boy! Thank God my scan confirmed it! good luck!

Like you I was using ovulation tests - my scan is telling me I am 4 days ahead of where I think I am. The trouble is they assume all babies are on the 50th centile when they measure, so if you have a bigger baby then they assume you are further ahead - but of course it is not an exact science. I think personally the ovulation tests are more accurate if you have used them properly and interpreted the dates correctly from that - most of us are quite capable of doing that but the docs seem to think we are mostly incapable of course
All in all though it isn't too much of a worry. My only concern is if I am overdue as I have been previously. I really don't want to have to argue against induction based on my dates vs theirs, but I will if I have to. Whatever happens though I will ensure baby is ok first with monitoring of course as ultimately s/he is what it is all about.

Withh DD1 I was plotting ovulation etc and when I feel pg I had my date as 1st sept. My dating scan changed that to 26th August.

DD arrived on...you guessed it, 1st september!

This time I had only got coil removed when fell pg so no LP to calculate by so I have to go with my dating scan. But as only 5% of babies are born on their due date there really is no need to worry as long as there's not a huge difference.

I am almost exactly sure when I ovulated (day 14) and am very regular in my cycles, but dating scan put me 3 days ahead - I wasn't sure what to make of this, so stuck with my own date of March 1 and not Feb 26 that they gave me. Just have to wait and see I suppose! I have often wondered how accurate they are.

My LMP was 17th June and no LH reading on Ov test on day 17 when according to my scan I should have ovulated. I think from temps, 1st positive Ov reading and ov pains that evening that I ovulated on day 21 (7th July) which is why I think due on 30th march and early scans said 29th march (althoug official 14 week one says 26th march). If anyone can make any sense of that please help.

My last two babies were quite wee and I'm a 5ft 1"er so the big baby theory worries me a bit. I'm also a bit worried as going for VBAC2 so can't be induced but they'll want to start talking about a section at their view of 40+10ish which is reality for me will be 40+6. However since this is 3rd time round, I'm taking less shit from them and won't let them come near me with a knife until their view of 40+14.

My 12 week scan (at 13 weeks ) put me 5 days ahead of where I thought I should be. I used opks that month and it was the first time I had got anything near a positive. But we did a lot of BDing before ovulation so who knows?

Like you, I'm hoping for a VBAC and was induced last time at 40+14. I'd rather avoid a section again so these dates are important to me as I have a feeling I'll go overdue again. But apparently they are set in stone, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I don't believe mine by scan date (a week ahead of my date by last period) as I would have conceived before having unprotected sex (or possibly sex of any description). So unless some kind of miracle has occurred, it ain't right.

Was a week late for DD, so I'm a bit concerned I could get pressure to be induced when I'm 40 + 14 by scan date, but only a week overdue. Ah well.

yep hobnob57 I fear they probs are set in stone but I suppose they can't force you to be induced. I was going to ask for one of those 'is the placenta still working?' tests if we get into a dispute about it to try and stave them off.

DS1 was 40+6 when he started and I thought I'd go over again 2nd time but DS2 came at 39+4 so you never know. I was actually sitting on the 'childbirth' talk page desperately looking for some hope that babies can come early when my waters popped!

That's good to hear, jojo - I shall scour the childbirth talk page once I get to 40 weeks or so!

All three of my dc's were overdue by atleast a week, so no I don't believe it.
