Pregnancy

Spotting, pulling sensations, diminished tiredness at 7 weeks

I'm around 6-7 weeks. The day before yesterday I had a small amount of light pink spotting, which later went light brown. Next day I had a very small amount of red blood streaked discharge, no clots. This later went brown too. I've had no more since, I've been resting.

I also had quite a few mild aches/pulling sensations down there yesterday BUT (sorry for tmi) I also had diarrhea so I think the pain was more down to that. Of course I could be wrong.

But I haven't been as tired the last week or so. I don't generally get morning sickness but for a while I couldn't decide what I wanted in the morning and now I'm managing to eat breakfast ok. My boobs aren't sore any more and I'm kindof expecting the worst now.

I've got a scan booked on monday, but I'm dreading it. In the rush of excitement (and because I had no problems with my last pregnancy) I told everyone. I mean everyone. Now I'm cringing wondering how I'm going to tell everyone I've lost it.

Right, first thing is (whilst miscarriages are v common, unexplained bleeding in early pg is also very common - esp round the time you would normally have a period.

And small amounts of blood that go brown (old blood) also = good sign.

I bled through my pg with ds, and a good few times with dd - & both pgs were fine (slightly stressful, but fine!)

Assume you're going to EPU? They're usually fab, ime. You know it'll be a transvaginal scan not a 'tummy' one, don't you?

Thanks for responding - yes I'll be going to the epu, and she did say it would be a transvaginal one, I'm ok with that as long as they don't manage to knock my cervix and cause more bleeding. I just hope they'll see something, because I'm also overweight and that can make early scans even more problematic.

I keep getting shooting pains in my boobs today, and I get a really strong instant line on any pg tests I do. The line is stronger than last weeks even though I did it with late night wee instead of first morning stuff, so I do still have a glimmer of hope.

There's so many horror stories out there though, I'm scared I'll go there and it'll have been dead for a week.

Bleeding again now, smallish amount of pinky-red blood, no clots. Not feeling very hopeful tbh.

Thanks hoops, hopefully I'll be the same.

I know it's hard but please try not to worry.....when I went for a scan at 7+3 I was bleeding so heavily that when the lady did my transvaginal scan the probe was covered in blood.......I thought it was game over but mini-hoops was fine and the lady couldn't explain the bleeding at all.......sending you lots of sticky vibes

God I hope and pray I'll get the same result. Thanks for posting, no-ones about.

Did you have any aching/pulling sensations? I know they always talk about "cramps" - I'm assuming they mean like period pains, and I wouldn't say I've had those exactly.

Yeah every time my period is due I have period pains......like now but they are not as strong as they would be IYKWIM......but then again I know where mini-hoops is having a growth spurt! It's the only time I feel bad......like I said my sypmtons completely disappeared and I got really worried but I was told by my midwife to stop moaning cos I am one of the lucky ones that didn't get MS.

I think I know the sorts of pains you are having....they feel weird stretching pains?

I had bleeding quite a lot between 5 and 9 weeks. Mostly just a little and then once with small clots. Had three scans and the sonographer thought it could be a broken blood vessel that was causing the bleeding. I also had quite bad period type pains.

Good luck, it's awful worrying.

Thanks, spoke to epu (who said to call back if it got any worse|) and they said "you need to speak to your doctor first and they need to refer you to us"

So called out of hours doctor who was very kind, and said he'd seen this before in dizens of women, even WITH clots, aaho went on to have healthy full term pregnancies, although there's also the chance it could lead on to a miscarriage. He'd advised strict and complete bed rest until the scan, and that if it got worse than a period, I had lots of pain or big clots, to ring 999 and go to casualty.

So I'm lying on the sofa, in limbo a bit. I'm not too upset now since my fabulous sister talked some sense into me, just keeping everything crossed.

Thanks, been lying on the sofa all day, just getting up to use the loo (my arse is numb!) no more active bleeding/clots, just remnants of faint brown from earlier. Wishing away this beautiful weekend...

oh, james, sorry you've had such a shit day
For ref, with ds I had hideous cramps, pulling sensations - oh and clots (smallish). So all those symptoms CAN still result in a healthy pg.

Am a bit unimpressed with your EPU - for ours you could self refer (although after I'd been in three times in two weeks, the lovely lady did suggest that maybe I should only come back if I had bleeding that was 'unusual for me'. Your GP sounds very sensible - mine signed me off work to MAKE me stay in bed & take things easy

Good luck for a blood free night

Thanks for the messages, you've all been great, I'm choked up again reading over the thread.

deepdarkwood, when you say you had small clots, how small is small? I'd say mine were about the size of a pea, and there were several.

deepdarkwood · 26/09/2009 22:26

tbh, I can't absolutely remember (6 & 4 years ago, respectively) but I remember a few that seemed huge... certainly pea sized.

I don't want to give you false hope - I know miscarriages are way more common than most of us realise - but there definately is still hope

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/09/2009 22:37

Yes I know it's common to mc, I'm trying not to be hopeful just in case, from everything I've read it's 50/50 whether a woman with bleeding and clots keeps the baby or loses it, there doesn't seem to be a reliable pattern at all.

Hi James

Keep pushing for your scan, because I started bleeding last Monday night had a scan on Tuesday morning and showed my baby there still in the sac but no heartbeat which was normal as I was only about 6 - 6 1/2 weeks pregnant.

On Wednesday night very heavy bleeding with clots another scan on Thursday morning revealed baby still there in the sac but still no heartbeat.

Told I was having a miscarriage and given options decided to proceed naturally as the baby is still inside me.

Have to go back on Tuesday morning for yet another scan, if then my baby has gone I might need a D & C but very much hoping not.

Please let me know how you get on I will keep everything crossed for you.

k xxxx

Fingers crossed for you, kisses! I hope you see that little heart beating.

Hoops, you've been great support on this thread, thank you.

For myself I just think there's no point in hoping, I find it easier to imagine myself empty and it's just blood. At least then on monday if there is anything there it'll be a lovely surprise instead of getting an awful disappointment.

Off to bed now to er... do what I've been doing all day. Not even tired, this sucks! Night all x
