Did your membrane sweep work?

PrammyMammy · 17/09/2009 15:42

I am not 40+2. Had appointment today and midwife offered me a membrane sweep, i agreed as it sounded much better than induction.
My notes say 'membrane sweep performed with ease. cx soft mid position os'
So this was today at 10.30am. I have period pains but have been having them for weeks.
Head is 4/5ths engaged she said, but it was not engaged at all last week.

Does it sound good?
How did your sweep go?

Yep - sounds like things could be on the way - fingers crossed for you!

I had a sweep with DD at 4pm, and by 5.30pm i was having contractions every three mins! DD was born at 12.55am the next morning.

Good luck!

I had one today at 10.30am - no sign of labour here yet.

My notes said sweep performed, posterior,, thick admits fingertip.

So I'm guessing my cervix is thick still but what's posterior?

Hope it works for you pramymammy.

I have another booked for Saturday morning!

I had one with my first when I was a week overdue, midwife said I was not ready yet an hour after I was in labour. Good luck!

Devonsmummy, i think posterior means it hasn't moved forward for labour yet.. i think! Someone will know for sure though.

Still no baby, but have had a huge show and there is still lots coming away. But i don't know if that was sure to happen after the sweep anyway?

Pinkmagic, an hour! Jeez lucky you.

Mine was 12 years ago with DD2, but if I remember correctly it went like this:

Had sweep on Thursday afternoon (41+4 weeks).
Had a show on the Friday and spent all day pacing around as I couldn't settle.
Woke up in full blown labour at 1am Saturday and had gave birth at 3am after two pushes.

So I'd say if it's going to work then you should be done and dusted by Monday .

Hope all goes well and that you meet your baby very soon.

i had a sweep for the first time with dd2 and i was already 2cm dilated @ 39 weeks but it didnt do anything apart from i was in pre-labour for the next 2 wks....ended up having an induction as i was 9 days late (i was aiming for a natural birth as had an emergency with dd1 so i managed to have a natural birth with dd2 ).

Can't see anything about bishops score, but there is a line in my notes that i can not make out, looks like - 'poons os ate iol star roody arragoil case' LOL

Must be something in the air, they just don't want to move. DS came on his due date, all on his own, i didn't even know you could go over due with your 2nd if your first came on time ha!
ChookKeeper - your experience sounds perfect, gives us hope :D.

I had two sweeps with dd with no effect and was induced at 42w. With my ds they gave me a sweep in hospital after a scan at 41 wks and I immediately went into labour. He was born 3 hrs later. MW 2nd time round was pretty violent though and I don't think he was really ready bit of a shock to both

I've had horrible cramps from about 9am. Been sick, and emptying my bowels lots. Had more bloody show, and my bac is aching. So it might be happening? I can speak through everything though and they are not proper cntractions, so i don't know what that means. Got dp to take the day off work too.

if your back is aching I would try and get on all fours and rock - that really helped me

good luck - keep relaxed, do some thing to distract you x x

I had 3 membrane sweeps with DD1 and nothing, the last doctor told me to go home and make love to my partner, SOOO embarrassing as he was working that day so my mum came with me.

Anyway took his advice, as uncomfortable as it was for both of us. Then 6 hours later waters broke and away we went!

So thats always my advice!

Both pregs failed a sweep. On my last in April I had 4 sweeps but babys head was on the brim hence there wasnt enough pressure on the cervix. I was also posterior because of this. Even on my first when I was very ripe it failed. I know loads of women whoes sweeps havent moved anything but were successfully induced. The last sweep was so bruttle in hospital I cry now. I was so desperate as I wanted a VBAC and ended up having waters broken which ended in em crash cs. I would asssume 50/50 and no MW can predict if they will go into labour.

Well - it worked! DD was born yesterday at 5.05am. I think it had something to do with the sweep lol.

Hello, I am 40+2 and had a S&S this morning. Apparently everything is where it should be (nice to know!), fully engaged and all that. Had some movements/ twitches since but nothing too much yet. Getting really bored waiting, although I know I should be grateful for the peace & quiet whilst I can etc... Curry for tea though! Encouraging to see stories of when this has worked, I really hope I'm one of them very soon!

Bluemary3000 · 28/09/2009 10:29

Yeah, I am liking all these stories as they all seem positive towards this working. Am having a sweep at 3pm today and I'm 40wks +5 today.

Had a sweep with my first when I went into hospital as I was only 2cm dilated and it did worked but v slowly, but I was 10 days early and my waters only broke due to the amount of fluid I was carrying. So, I am hoping this one will work slightly better and not result in an overnight stay in hospital or as long a labour.

Am so ecxited as I could have my baby by tomorrow or the day after. Woo hoo..
