If so, how much/often?

Just a bit of unscientific research...

not pg now but I didn't have a drop during 2 pregnancies, I was desperate for a drink once they were born. I don't think a small amount does any harm though, I'm just a worrier and didn't want to risk it.

I have half a small glass of wine every few weeks or so. I sip it very slowly to make it last!

Yes, a bit. Nothing regular. Maybe half a glass of wine every other week. The first time I was pregnant the advice was to drink no more than one or two units a week.

I have a glass of wine or a fruit beer every couple of weeks

Not in the first trimester, I did have the odd glass of wine the second two, which generally gave me awful heartburn The advice changed during my pg from 2/3 units a week is ok to don't drink at all. I kept with the old advice, never read anything that convinced me that the change was needed.

Yes whenever I wanted it, which wasn't very often.

I ate all the things you aren't supposed to as well, except those things that I don't actually like, but there again I never have liked being told what to do

Nope - not for me. I am gagging for a drink though.

The guidance seems to change frequently. I occasionally had half a glass of wine in the later stages.

A friend who'd had some kind of scare was told (after being told all was OK) by her gynaecologist to go home and have a glass of wine, so I don't think small amounts can be that much of a problem - in strict moderation, obviously!

Yes, after 12 weeks. Glass a week when pg with ds2, much less when pg with ds1.

after 1st trimester 1-2 units twice a week is apparently okay, but I don't have that much, just 1 glass of something every 1-2 weeks - I often go a week or 2 without and then we go out for a meal with family or friends and I have a lager shandy (& ask for the weakest lager!) or a white wine very long spritzer heavy on the spritz

like everyone probably, I know someone who drank 1-3 glasses of wine with her dinner about 5 times a week and her child is perfectly fine, but I wouldn't risk it myself... 1 drink once a fortnight is fine for me. nearly 32 weeks now and counting - can I have champagne in the delivery suite?!?!

Report
Wonderstuff · 31/08/2009 11:25

brighton you will take champagne to the delivery street, but you will want a cuppa tea

I don't generally drink heavily anyway, but I've really missed having a glass of wine whenever I've fancied it with dinner Everyones 18th has happened since I've been pregnant, plus parties and weddings - always the way!!

I tend to have a small glass of either sparkling wine or spritzer on a Friday and / or Saturday night. I normally cook DP and myself a really nice meal for one of the two nights I'm here, and its just pleasant to sit down with a meal and a glass of wine. But then some weekend, if we're being lazy, I don't have anything. I find it goes to my head so much quicker now anyway, I hardly have to drink at all to feel all fuzzy

None at all. Missing it, but have decided for me tis not worth the risk.

No, but I don't feel like I'm missing out because I wasn't a big drinker anyway.

I got married when I was pg with DS2 and did have a glass of champagne then.

I forgot to add that I didn't drink at all during the first trimester - which was hard for me, as I do like a drink. The odd splosh of wine in the second trimester is enough for me, but I am planning to treat myself to two glasses of champagne on Xmas day (will be nearly full-term by then)!

In both pregnancies I didn't realise I was preg until about 8 weeks so drank plenty(Was Christmas the first time and was on holidays in Croatia the second time)!! From that point on I drank a 2-3 drinks per week (not all at once though!)
There are SOOOOO many threads on this topic with various levels of dementedness - just do a search.

I didn't drink anything as soon as I found out I was pregnant until past the end of the first trimester, and then would have the odd small glass of wine or beer occassionally throughout rest of pregnancy- but never more than twice a week or so.

With DC1 however I didn't realise I was pregnant and had been out celebrating with a friend who'd just handed in her PhD- and had quite a few- but was barely 5wks pregnant then . Think it's the same for many of us!

In the last 18 weeks i've had about 6 pints of v weak shandy, a weak white wine spritzer and went wild with a half a cider on the last night when we were at glastonbury...
Can't face beer or wine undiluted at all at the mo so just a little shandy if we're out with friends i enough to make me not feel like i'm missing out!
hubby seems to think 3/4 pint lemonade to 1/4 pint beer makes it so weak it that its like that bass stuff you used to get as kids so reckons it does even count as alcohol but i'm not convinced!!
I'm slightly worried that i went on a hen do the week before i found out i was pregnant tho but have read posts from mumsnetters who frank befor they knew and whose babies have been fine so trying too to worry too much.... X

Am 23 weeks now and haven't had any at all - apart from up to 6 weeks when I had no idea I was pregnant and had a couple of beers and a few glasses of wine! Didn't do any harm, but I did think it tasted a bit weird!

Don't feel like alcohol now at all. Miss the social side though.

nope! didnt at all with DS or with this pregnancy. But then am not a big drinker, so for me - is not a big deal...figure 9 months really is not that long.

Oh and second the wanting a cup of tea over champagne. After DS was born, the champers returned untouched. Tea and water - total godsend!
