advice re pain in my bump

hi - i'm due in a couple of weeks, but today have a dreadful sharp pain in my bump. It's sort of lower right, and feels like a really bad stitch, though obviously i haven't been running!! About to get in the bath hoping that will ease it. Should I contact the mid-wife? I have had diarrhoea today, and don't want to turn up at the hospital only to be told it's wind!! Def not labour pain or anything (this is my 3rd preg) - it kind of feels on the outside of the bump, not internal. Just not sure what to do!!

It sounds like round ligament pain, or it could be down to a UTI.

Have you been overdoing things?

I would say bath and then feet up if you can (not easy with another two though!) and then call the MW if things don't ease off any.

Hi Maddy,

I think a bath is a good idea. Also, may be a hand / elbow / foot/knee digging in and putting strain on your ligaments (I get this sometimes), so some gentle prodding in the area might persuade LO to shift position a bit.

If the bath and prodding don't work, I'd call the MW, just to put your mind at rest!

thank you so much for quick replies. I'll give the bath a go. And my other 2 are with their granny today (conveniently) so i'll just take it easy. Thanks again!

Not sure why but any ligament pain I had was always on the right hand side as well.
I had bad SPD with my last pregnany and the pain on that side was horrible

hope you feel better soon.

I had this yesterday, I'm 21 weeks and it bloody hurt but passed in about an hour. I ended up curled in my shower using the water on the spot to ease the pain (after throwing up twice), then curled up on sofa with a hot water bottle and plate of chips . Hope it passes soon.

I get these stitch pains too....
I also assume its growing / stretching ligament pain.

Also have sharp stab pains too...feels like baby clawing at your insides..
happens in different places around the bump...

have to say....didnt get these kinds of pains from my other pregnancys..??
is it something that becomes more common with more pg's you have ??

but I take baths....lie on sofa when the pains strike...
they do subside....sometimes after a few mins....sometimes takes longer...

but i wouldnt worry too much...unless pains are more than just "uncomfortable" ..
and they dont subside after a good sleep/ long rest with some paracetamol??...

Your not over doing it are you maddyo6 ??

pains tend to come moreso when your doing too much !!!!!

Hi Maddy

yes I've got that too (I'm 29 wks). Not all the time. Only had it maybe 3 times - I had it when I was in bed the other night and it was quite painful and sharp, like a really bad stitch, not just like baby kicking or shifting. But it did go after a while. I only get it on the right side around waist level (well, you know- where I used to have a waist). This is my 2nd pregnancy - I never had this with DS. It takes my breath away and I can't really function whilst its happening.

I'll mention it to the MW next week, but chances are she'll dismiss it - I'm not too worried at the moment.
