Sorry you're having such a stressful time - pregnancy after mc is always stressful, particularly the first half.

It's still relatively early for expecting movement (particularly so if you're a first timer) and you could have an anterior placenta, or indeed you could be feeling move, ent without knowing it. And other than that I am not sure what you would be like at this stage.

FWIW I think it's normal to feel that before a 20 week scan, and particularly as you've already had a loss - I was a mess before my scans. But it is just normal anxiety so try not to be superstitious and imagine that it's a presentiment or something.

They won't definitely be able to tell you the sex, some hospitals won't tell anyway, and even if they do sometimes baby is not in a helpful position. PLus sex at a 20 week scan is never completely reliable. They probably will be able to give you an idea though.

Best thing you can do is try not to pre-empt things that could go wrong. In the unlikely circs that there is a problem, they will explain it to you & you really don't need to spend the next 4 days imaghining it do you? Anyway, the chances are you'll have a perfectly normal scan & come back with some lovely pics of your little one!

I know how you feel because my scan with first pregnancy showed no heartbeat so next time I was in a complete panic everytime we went in for a check.
I would say that you should try not to worry in advance as stress can affect baby, just go along for the scan as statistically, the chances are that everything will be fine.

Some hospitals have a policy of not saying the sex even if its clearly obvious to them. Even if they would like to tell you, sometimes it can'tbe seen cos of the position the baby is lying in etc. Its a medical procedure to check that all is well with babies, so looking at everything else is the scanner's first priority.

If they won't or can't tell you then you will be having a nice surprise in a few months!

Mine is tomorrow and I'm also v nervous about it. Its my first at 42 and feels too precious as this may be my last chance. I haven't felt any movements yet either. I really hope they don't find anything wrong.

Nuchal scan was fine and a friend told me that if that was fine, its likely that that would have shown up anything hideous, so the chances are there will be nothing new at 20 weeks. She also said, that most people's scans are fine. So that was a bit of a comfort. I've also seen several postings on here from people who have been told at the 20 wk scan that they have "markers" for something and their baby was fine. Not sure if I want to know really!

I had mine yesterday and she checked everything out - brain, spine, all limbs, eyes, kidneys, bladder, heart
we tried to find sex out but baby wouldnt have it as kept moving and closing legs

we saw everything up on a second screen and she explained what she was looking for and also took measurememnts

must say i enjoyed this scan more than first as was so scared with the 12 weeks one as had a previous mc before this pregnancy and had convinced myself something was wrong
