What does it do, and how does it do it?

Is it safe?

I used it in the bath - just a couple of drops in the bath water, when I was overdue with DD#1 - I went into labour that night, but to be fair I was also 12 days overdue, had had my 3rd sweep during the day and it could have been any number of factors that actually helped start labour in the end.
I did find it quite smelly and not actually for me a smell I liked all that much, but I could put up with it too.
Cant say how it works sorry. Sure I picked up the idea of using it from mumsnet in the first place!

I thought it smelled quite nice, and it was good excuse to get DH to give me many lengthy massages when I was overdue with DD, enormous and everything hurt (diluted in almond oil as per instructions on bottle as far as I remember - don't go using it neat, now...). You can use it in the bath too, I think.

So all that was good...

Did it make a shred of difference? Did it bollocks. Went 2 weeks over and had to be induced anyway.

I doubt many of these things really make a difference if your LO isn't wanting to make an appearance, but some of them are quite nice and it gives you something to do and makes you feel like you're at least trying.

Call me cynical...

Oh and don't eat 5 pineapples in a night (OK, I got desperate). It just gave me a dreadful stomach ache and the runs.

Thanks for your replies.

It's for a friend of mine so I'll show her this thread.

I too know of the pain that pineapple can cause - I ate so much at the end of my 1st pregnancy that it made my mouth sore - I had it frozen instead in the end (and was still induced 2 1/2 weeks late!!)

Don't overdo it or you can get effects similar to smoking marijuana... not good!

I had read that it worked a little like gas and air during labour. I put it one a wet flannel (advice put one drop at a time only as the smell is quite strong). I breathed in the flannel during contractions. To be fair it worked really well this is all I used and from the time I started on clary sage to the birth it only took 2 hours (first labour 36 hours and I am a wimp). I hope that helps

When ever I sniffed it during late pregnancy it gave me braxton hicks.

I've heard Jasmine can encourage labour to start...I acadentally spilled a load ovr my bump when over due with DD, and went into labour....but I was 10 days over due.

It stinks, I used it in the bath, massaged it on bump and reflexology points on feet (can you tell I was desperate) did nothing despite the woman in H&B going on like I was trying to buy crack cocaince "oh it can send you into LABOUR, we don't recommend it you know!!!" erm I am 41 weeks pregnant you silly moo.

And I got loads of aggro from DP for stinking out the house.

Save your pennies and buy chocolate instead
