Blurry vision, pregnancy related?

Confuzzeled · 09/08/2009 20:42

Am 38+2 with second lo.

Don't remember getting blurry vision with dd.

Is this pregnancy related or maybe worth a trip to the doctor? Got the MW tomorrow anyway.

It can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

Here

When did it start? And whats your BP like - has it been raised at all? Definitely needs checking out.

It started this morning and has been on and off all day, worse now it's dark.

I saw the mw 2 weeks ago and my bp was fine.

My hands and feet are not swollen but my feet do feel a bit heavy today. I just thought I was possibly tired and had read somewhere ages ago about blurry vision and pregnancy.

Do you think I need to be worried about it before I see my mw tomorrow lunchtime?

I was JUST about to post a v similar thread.

I'm 39+3 and this evening have noticed that I have a blury weird thing going on to the far right. It's only affecting my peripheral vision on the right. I also have a headache. Had blood pressure checked on Friday adn it was OK. As with Confusseled there's no swelling.

What to do?

I can't answer for you, but I have to say if it was me I'd want to get advice tonight. Can you ring the labour ward/hospital at this stage of PG?

Headaches and blurred vision can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. Phone your mw tonight and they can advise the best course of action

I agree with everyone else - blurry vision in pregnancy can be a sign of high blood pressure and needs to be checked out. Could you phone the labour ward or NHS direct?

I had the same sort of thing blurred vision and a headache, but it was a migraine and got better after lying down in a dark room.

Get it checked out though x

Just for info as I'm sure this wont be the case for you but

I suffer from http://www.cushings-help.com/csr.htm central serous chorio retinopathy

It is bought on by pregnancy (or the stress related to it) and has permenantly damages my eye sight, my right eye has only peripheral vision now. although any part of your vision can be affected.

Just spoke to Triage at Labour Ward and they asked lots of questions.

I don't have any other symptoms so they've just told me to keep an eye out for swelling or any pain in tummy or head.

Heinz - Hope your okay.

Just to point out also that CSR is very rare and only a specialist would be aware of it as a potential condition as it primarily affects men-but when pregnant your cortisol levels are raised and this is what makes you vulnerable to this condition.

Thanks confusseled. I keep wondering whether it's my imagination making me think my eye is going funny. I do have a headache which I've just taken painkillers for. I am very tired, I've been driving for about 4 hours today all in.

You need to get checked out as soon as possible.

While pregnant on dd2 my bp was fine all the way through until i got to 36wks when it suddenly shot up one evening and i had blurry vision and a migrane, i phoned the nhs direct line and they said go to the hospital by the time i got there i was blind and having fits i'd gone straight from being fine to having eclampsia, i had to have an emerg c-sec right away to relieve the sypmtoms which thankfully it did and DD and myself were ok and home in just under a wk.

Dont want to worry you just wanted to show how important it is to get any blurry vision and headaches checked right away

Blurred vision can be sign of pre-eclampsia. I had pre-eclampsia with dd and did have blurred vision but also looked like a marshmallow man and bp was really high and 4 protein in urine. If you are really worried maybe pop to and a and e and they will check your wee for protein and bp

Heinz, call your mw or labour ward if your at all worried. Better to be safe I say.

They asked if I'd had any flashing or visual disturbances, have you?

iMumruly - Bloody hell, thats really serious, I'm sorry you've lost part of your vision.

here is a better link i think CSR

Its crap, Ive had 4 babies and had 4 attacks of CSR-there is no treatment apart from steroids which I couldnt take as I was breast feeding. The only other option is once your vision has diminished to about 10% they will offer you laser treatment but that runs a very very high risk of complete loss of vision.

The key thing is to get it diagnosed quickly.

i had slightly fuzzy vision in my 1st pregnancy. early on though. some judicious googling made me realise it was to do with fluid retention -- even your eyeballs swell up a bit & that changes your focus. nice! just to reassure you that it might not be pre-eclampsia. but do please get checked out by your midwife asap.

just a quick update, I've just got back from the labour ward, my blood pressure's gone up quite high. Everything else normal, they took bloods and the lab results show liver and kidneys OK. Have to go back tomorrow to be monitored again. Thanks for advise.

Oh dear Heinz, I hope your labour starts soon and baby arrives healthy and happy.

I'm seeing my midwife this afternoon, hopefully my bp will be okay too. I'll update later. Let me know how you get on too.

Hope all is well Heinz, and good luck with however much left you have of the pg, and of course with the birth and your new LO

I looked at this thread as I find my vision goes slightly "off" just before my period (the blurry feeling is often the best indicator I have on when I'm about to come on) and wondered if I might learn something looking at this. And yes, if fluid retention can affect your eyes then that could well be what's happening in my case, so thanks HoxtonChick!

Hi all

My bp is still as high as it was last night, but they sent me for a scan to check growth and blood throw through cord, all good.

They're v reluctant to induce me because I'm having a VBAC. All they want to do to induce is break waters, but after internal it looks impossible at this stage.

So they've sent me home with blood pressure tablets and instructions to call them if I feel unwell. I'm to see my community midwife on Wednesday then go back to the hospital on Thurs.

Confuzzled, I hope your bloods come back OK good luck x
