Pregnancy

Jeans - What am I doing wrong..??

This is my 3rd pregnancy but its my first with an actual chopice of maternity clothes - I lost 7.5 stone in between DD2 and this pregnancy.

Last time I had little choice in maternity clothes as a size 24, this time as a size 12 I have a lot more..

I'm 16 weeks, too chunky for normal jeans, not big enough for complete over the bump jeans...

I have bought (via ebay) about 4 pairs of (new) "on the bump" jeans and they ALL fall down. None of them have elasticated adjustable bitties (you know what I mean) - they are all decent brands (Next and M&S) but they are completely unwearable - they fall down. Literally. With one pair I took 4 steps and they were around my ankles.

Am I just not "bumpy" enough yet - is it worth keeping them for a few more weeks and trying them on again then...? I've put on a fair chunkl of weight so tehre is no chance that a size 12 is too big for me and I should be in a 10 - a 10 wouldn't fit around the thigh etc....

You can get wee elasticated strap things which attach to the top of your jeans and bottom of your bra. Don't know where from, (mine were a git) but absolutley brilliant to actually making maternity trousers work.

I'll see if I can find them online and post a link.

I had a pair of New Look maternity jeans that were still falling down at 40 weeks ! The best pair were some Vertbaudet ones which didn't have a stretch panel but the denim did go over the bump. I just checked their website but they all seem to have stretch panels now.
Can you use a belt in the meantime?

Thanks designerbaby - I have ordered some..!!

Hi Rubyslippers - the ones I have which I can wear and are wonderful are New Look ones - Also on the bump ones....they are brilliant...

Hi BettyMum - belts make everything too tight around the bump so good idea but not really...

I have leggings that are brilliant but not every top works with leggings..!!

they all fall down eventually IME - I think it's because the denim is so heavy and because of the way it 'catches' round your knees as you bend. Non-denim trous always stayed up no problem.

best compromise for me was under-bump jeans (I had DP with a jersey waistband and Next with stretchy pocket bits) with an elastic belt - just enough grip to stay up without squeezing. I made mine (unglamourously) from wide black elastic and a a buckle from a haberdashery but you can get real ones in the shops too

They all fall down. I have given up. I am currently wearing an old pair of Topshop skinny jeans that I don't wear when not pregnant anymore because they are v low rise and I am not keen on displaying builder's bum to the world every time I bend over.

But their low rise-ness, bit of stretch and the fact that they do up with two buttons next to each other mean they are perfect for maternity wear and stay up better than any maternity jeans I've ever tried.

I had a pair of Next jeans, and they were always falling down. Then I got some jeans from Blooming Marvellous (these ones) and they actually stay up!

Well, we'll see how the bra-braces work - otherwise I'm guessing I'll have to right off my jeans plan and buy more tops that I can respectably wear with leggings...!

Maternity jeans aren't working for me, either. I think denim is just too stiff a material, the elasticky part can't help them. I've been wearing my normal jeans + a belly band and that's been quite comfortable so far... fingers crossed it works for a while longer. (I'm 24 weeks right now.)

i think without a propper waist keeping any trousers up is gonna be tricky? i have ditched my maternity jeans and am now in maternity dresses which are so comfy

Whilst wishing you luck on your quest, maternity jeans just haven't worked for me. Under bump fall down, over bump uncomfy when sitting down.

I'm spending this pregnancy in skirts and occasionally leggings!

Over bump jeans from Gap fell down on me too. I've got some under bump ones from Seraphine which are great. They do special belts too. Not particularly cheap, but as I live in jeans, I think its worth it. I hope they last all the way through my pregnancy and for some time after.

I have some under the bump mat jeans from New Look. I'm definitely a size 12 in jeans - these are a size 8 and i'm only just beginning to feel them a bit snug, and I'm 25 weeks come Sunday.

i have topshop maternity ones which are just elasticated in the pockets, like a panel on each side, plus inner adjustable waist bands.

they stay up fine. they sit under the bump but not totally iyswim, they come up to where normal hipster jeans would sit. they are comfy.

oh, forgot to say i find next, m&s, h&m etc all a bit big anyway, certainly tops are. but i find topshop are a better fit. i'm a 10-12.

Maternity jeans are such a PITA. I bought loads - cheap ones designer ones... I got some boyfriend jeans from jojo maman bebe that had a slightly different waistband to all the others I tried. They weren't the nicest jeans but they didn't fall down! Earlier in the pg I wore my usual jeans but held them together with a hairband and covered my waist with a £5 bump band from top shop.

I am 15 weeks at the moment, and i'm at the same stage as OP. I found some Belly bands on Ebay, which have become a godsend. They go over the top of my trousers (which i can no longer fasten!) and hold them up! They are also great if you are tall, like me, as they can be used to look like they are a second layer under your top. The Ebay shop was called "Mama Feels Good" and i would highly recommend them! Hope this helps! x

Over the bump for me last time just fell down. This time was in Asda and bought a pair of under bump jeans in the sale 7 pounds and they are fab!!

Really roomy (I'm also size 12) without being baggy though I do have to be careful when I bend down not to show my maternity thong (I won't wear big pants for anyone!!) but when not at work I live in these!! Wish I'd bought 2 pairs!!
