What the hell are fixing pains?

Had a midwife appointment a few days ago and I complained that I had period type pains every so often. She wasn't concerned and just said they were 'fixing pains'.
I know I should have asked at the time, but what the bloody hell was she on about?
I can only guess that they are to do with the head engaging, but my notes say that he's not engaged at all yet.
I've googled, but come up with not much, so bow to the superior knowledge of MN.

i have no idea what fixing pains are lol, but i had period type pains a lot in my last pregnancy

I'm not too worried because she knows what she is on about, but it would have been nice if she had elaborated, instead of assuming I know every minutiae of pregnancy.
