I thought 2nd babies were supposed to be quicker, DD1 was born at 40+8 I went into labor with her at 40+5.

I thought I was in Labor last Monday with DD2 but it turned out to be what the MW called prosta pains. I had had a sweep that day and DH and I had intercourse on the MW's instructions

So I had a sweep at 39+3 and then again at 40+5 and nothing. I keep getting loads of BH's and low level period pains, but nothing happens.

I have walked and walked every day now since I was term, tried all manner of things but again nothing. I don't think she wants to come out lol.

I have an ante natal appointment with my consultant tomorrow when I will be 10 days overdue, what will happen? Will they induce me tomorrow or wait for a while longer? I really really do not want to be induced.

How long will they let me go over before insisting on inducing me?

I have heard that labor is so much more painful when induced, is that true?

I'm 9 days overdue today also, and have my term + 10 appointment tomorrow. Was told that they'd do a trace on the babies heartbeat, a scan to check the fluid levels around her, and offer me a membrane sweep. I then have until term +14 before they think about medically inducing me, but I'm sure she said that date will be booked at my term +10 appointment just in case.

Not had a sweep yet, was due to have one on Wednesday but got sent off to the local hospital instead for a trace as her baseline heartbeat was low.... she was sleeping

Had period pains in my back which kept me awake all night on Friday which seemed promising... but come morning, they had vanished and now I'm left with nothing at all. Very frustrating. Been walking lots, tried everything that is supposed to get them out, but she is really having none of it.

Was also told an induced labour is a lot more painful, as with natural labour your contractions gradually build up in intensity and you get some sort of break in between them - but with induction, they're really intense from the off set and you don't really get a breather between them, leaving you bloody knackered, especially if they ease off after a few hours which isn't uncommon.

Shewillbeloved, it is awful isn't it, I keep swinging from 'I want the baby here now' to 'she can stay in there a little longer'

I have been expecting her to come early as all the signs, MW's even the consultant said that it looks like she would be pre term. Obviously I am happy that she isn't pre term but I think I had got myself in that mindset IYKWIM.

Kylester, how bad was labor after your induction? Are you confined to the bed if you are induced?

Will they make me have an induction or can I refuse for a bit? How long do you think would be safe to refuse for?

The induction itself was not nice as the doctor was very forceful...if you know what I mean...don't want to go into graphic details! Labour afterwards was long although my notes said I was in "active" labour for 14 hours, it was 36 hours from inducing to emergency c-section after I got to 7cm dilated and then no further. I looked like death afterwards as I was so shattered.

It was my first time so really hadn't a clue what was going on. I was in bed most of the time, out occasionall to use the birthing ball, but only because I didn't have anyone to tell me to get out and stay mobile, which is my plan this time round....if I ever get there!

I've had some contractions over the last few days but they alwasy tail off and disappear again - anyone got tips for getting them going properly?

kylester, that sounds awful
My consultant said that I had to have an epidural with DD1 and I didn't think to question it (her being my first) and I hated the fact that I was confined to the bed. I want to be as mobile as poss with DD2.

I've had the on off contractions which amount to nothing as well, so disheartening isn't it.

So far I have tried;
Clary sage oil and marjoram rubbed on bump (in a carrier oil) I found the Clary sage oil helped to start my contractions off again with DD1 when they stopped for a while.

Lots of walking (going to the beach later on for another walk)

Curry's

Pineapple (I really cannot eat any more if I tried)

Sex (but not easy with a mahoooosive bump and a bad back lol)

I have had 2 sweeps, got niggles some prosta pains (never heard of them before) but nothing else!!

I hope it happens soon for you.

Hi.

You're not really overdue until you're past 42 weeks, especially if you went to 41+ with the first. EDD is as it says - just an estimate. I can appreciate that these last few days are the most uncomfortable though and I'm finding it difficult to think about or get on with anything else.

They can't make you have an induction if you don't want one, but if nothing happens you can go in for monitoring so make sure everything is okay and at least be reassured that baby is ok in there for a bit longer. There's some stuff on induction here that might be helpful, and if you go to the bottom of the page there's a link to some natural induction methods.

Good luck - it can't be that much longer one way or another!

Thanks for that link gina, I will read through it now. I'm glad they cant make me have an induction, having one scares the daylights out of me TBH

I keep trying to put it out of my min (as much as I can when lugging around a huge bump lol) but I am not having much luck not thinking about it.

5 days over here. If its any help, I think inductions are probably worse for first time babies. This is based on anecdotes not any hard evidence but its not surprising. I know people who have had inductions with no problems at all. (This is what I'm telling myself) But I know its horrible to have it hanging over you.

That's no help MustHave - this is my first

Any news Insert? How did your appointment today go? I thought mine was today, but it's tomorrow. Wishing the days away!

Just got back from my appointment (going out for chocolate in a mo while DH is out with DD )

I am booked in on Wednesday at 10am, when I will be 12 days overdue, for induction with prostaglandins. So if she doesn't make an appearance before then at least I have a date when things may start (hopefully)

I am still hoping she comes or at least it all starts before then, but I think she is too happy in there lol.

Good luck for tomorrow

Sorry Shewillbeloved, that was aimed at insertwitty . Still time for things to happen on their own. Also, my SIL was induced at 38 weeks and had no problems at all. Just a couple of paracetamol...

Good luck everyone.

Must be a relief to have a set date of when things will at least start Insert hope things happen or at least start to happen naturally before then for you though! I'm hoping that if my dates haven't changed and baby is okay that they'll let me go to term +14 naturally before wanting to induce me. I'll take a sweep tomorrow but I'm reluctant to set a date for induction for before the 14 days are up!

I just want to add that in my experience inductions are fine. My first baby was induced and i agree with musthaveashort memory that the first is worse - I ended up on the drip and that hurt a lot so i had an epidural (marvelous things!) - but it was a pretty standard 12 hour labour and i pushed the baby out fine. i then had 2 without induction and my fourth was induced and it was fantastic - he shot out really quickly after they got me going. my 5th is due on saturday and i must admit i'd rather have a nice planned induction than days and days of drifting in and out of labour and getting tired, impatient and anxious.
