It's a mystery! Wouldn't worry though - sounds like you are eating well and gradually expanding. If you haven't put anything on in another month or so then you might want to discuss with midwife.

When baby is born don't go back to the bad old ways! One meal a day is no way to live - and would not be good if you are tired and breastfeeding.

I didn't put any weight on and in fact lost a bit in my first trimester -most food made me nauseous (and I was slim to start with - size 8). I think the changing appearance can be down to hormones and water retention which make you swell up a bit. And your metabolism completely changes when pregnant - you have a baby growing inside you that is growing at an incredible rate - so probably uses all the extra calories you are getting, plus distribution of fat vs muscle vs water in your body changes too. I put on a tiny bit in months 4 and 5, and most of weight gain for me was months 6 and 7 (then tapered off again at end when stomach got so squished by growing baby that couldn't eat much again). So I wouldn't worry about it, so long as you are eating healthily, and the weight gain will catch up with you by the end of your pregnancy.

The baby itself is still tiny at this stage, so its quite possible that something as simple as going to the loo before the midewife weighed you would make a couple of pounds difference! As long as you know that you are eating plenty and trying to eat reasonably good stuff, then you are doing all you can. Your tummy can expand due to the muscles relaxing - and people who are slim tend to show a bump quite early on anyway because they have little body fat to disguise it.

I don't think it's anything to worry about but it is worth talking it through with your midwife.

It's quite possible that eating more regularly has kick-started your metabolism (which must have been pretty much in starvation mode). It sounds like you are eating healthily but you'll actually have lost more weight than the scales say as the baby, placenta, extra blood, amniotic fluid need to be taken into account too.

Mind you different scales do give varying results so it is possible that your weight has actually remained stable.

Try not to worry!
