Anyone else at 17 weeks feel like this?

Hi,

For the last 3 days i have felt so drained and exhausted. There is so much i need to get out and do but i have no energy! I am eating well and i only had bloods taken 2 weeks ago, they were all fine so can't be lack of iron can it?

DD and i did have a slight temp 2 days ago and both felt rubbish, we went to the doctor and she said the temps were not high enough to be swine flu so prob just a cold coming. It passed really quickly and we are fine now, apart from me and my total exhaustion! I don't feel like i need to sleep really, just have a lack of energy to do anything!

Does anyone else feel like i do at this stage? Just looking for some reassurance before i ring the midwife!

I am still several weeks behind you (11 weeks) but feeling much the same! If I sit down, especially in the evenings, I find it very hard to get up again and get anything done at all, and I get tired just going up and down the stairs a few times... it feels like someone has turned a tap and all my energy has drained out! I think it is not unusual though. Hoping it will pass in a few weeks...

I'm at 17 weeks and I feel like I've got lead legs at the moment. My iron levels were at 12 point something only a couple of weeks ago, so not anything to do with iron deficiency. I think it's just that the baby's getting bigger so the demands on your body are getting greater, plus you're starting to carry around more weight as the baby grows.

I remember really slowing down last time I was pg, normally it takes me about 12 mins to walk to the station, but now it's taking nearer 20 mins. I just cannot rush.

Is this your first baby maybebaby? I'm afraid you just have to start taking things easy, it's your body telling you you can't rush about like you normally do. I was amazed after ds was born how quickly I got my spring back (despite being knackered) physically I just had so much more energy.

I'm 25 weeks but have felt like that since about 17 weeks - having had a brief respite after the awful 1st trimester tiredness ended. It does come and go though, so I have a bad few days then feel a bit better, and if you've had some kind of virus it may well have knocked you back for a while. Hope you feel a bit more lively soon.

I'm 17 weeks and exhausted too! I keep going to bed around 10.30pm, but am still knackered the next day. It's getting me down, feel like I need to sleep for a month! I'm at work now and keep finding myself staring into space, and can't concentrate on anything. Plus am more snappy with people than they deserve! argh :D

I'm 16+4 and some days are better than others. I still want to puke my spleen up most days though.

Good times.

Yes I have been thinking this very same thing today. This should be the blooming, easy period shouldn't it so why am I out of breath when I get to the top of the stairs and why do I have to have a little kip with dd2 at naptime? My iron was 13.1 at 11 weeks so it can't have dropped that much can it, especially as I have been taking spatone every day. I have been and bought some fluoradix to take too...maybe I'm going to od on iron, but I am really acting like I am anaemic at the mo' even though I probably am not.

Oh wow very reassuring to read your replies, thanks! I feel exactly the same as you all! This is my second baby and i did feel like this the whole way through and was quite sick so i should have known but this time i have felt great! Ive had a fantastic first trimester and it seems that each day since 12 weeks ive felt more and more tired and sick! Doesn't make sense! Oh well. Thanks for reassuring me!

e3chick - be wary of taking too much iron. When I was pg with ds my gp told me only to take supplements if my iron levels actually showed that I was deficient, otherwise there is evidence it may start being harmful if you take too much.

I'm 17 weeks and feeling drained too. Been falling asleep on the sofa at about 9 most nights!

It's not helping that last week my DS decided he didn't need naps anymore

I think it's normal. My baby book keeps promising me that I'll start feeling more normal soon - we shall see

I can totally sympathise with you on the dropping of afternoon naps, my DD has just decided to drop hers too and i am struggling to stay awake!

Little monkey fell asleep in the car when we were on our way to collect something from the post office. Slept all the way there and back and through me moving him into the house.

Felt a bit guilty but I've had to prop him up and put Roary on to wake him up. If he sleeps now there is no way he'll sleep at bedtime and I need a rest at bedtime as DH is going out!!

Oh I am exactly the same! I'm 25 weeks, and for the last 2 weeks have been exhausted. I didn't feel anything like this tired at this stage with ds. I wasn't too well last week (tummy upset and cold-like symptoms but not sf) so I'm wondering whether it's just post-viral fatigue. Combined with running round after a v v lively 2 year old!

lol 2 year olds the joys lol my dd1 nearly 4 is now on summer hols too so shes at home full time for the next 6 weeks

Report
maybebaby23 · 22/07/2009 17:36

Oh the next 6 weeks...ugh! Going to have to find some energy somewhere to get my poor dd out of the house for a bit during the hols!

The best thing about my DD not sleeping in the day now is that she is more than ready for bed at 7pm and sleeps through properly which is sooo what i need her to do at the moment with me being so exhausted! I just collapse at 7pm, if i haven't managed to make a meal then we starve! Simple as! DF will learn to cook eventually lol

Nixies · 23/07/2009 10:41

i'm almost 37 weeks and have had the same thing the whole way through - seems to come and go, but I have at least a day or 2 every week when i feel completely exhausted and have no energy. then back to normal again a day later. for me, its seems to coincide with feeling more achy around my bump / back / pelvis so have put it down to baby having growth spurts...

Have to agree that I've felt tired almost constantly (32 weeks now) - I was always waiting for that burst of energy the books kept talking about

I actually started taking spatone every morning around 19 weeks, despite having good iron levels, and it did seem to help.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

What's spatone??

Don't take extra iron if you don't need it - you'll just give yourself constipation! A decent multivitamin will keep things stable.

LizLemon · 23/07/2009 17:16

spatone is a water based iron supplement & doesn't have the same side effects as taking tablets thankfully . I found out about it on here - you put a sachet into some fruit juice and drink it. They're really low dose too, unlike tablets.

have you spoken to your midwife ?
Have you had your blood results back from booking in as low iron levels can make you breathless.
