2nd time mums - when did you start wearing mat clothes?

Only 6.5 weeks in and I'm struggling to get in my jeans! OK very possibly cake induced, but after DC1 you are supposed to show a lot earlier.

It feels far too early, but I've already dug out my old maternity jeans, they are so comfy.

When did you get out the stretchy trousers / big pants / things with elastic in?

about 16 weeks. definately showed a lot quicker with this one than the first.

my jeans started not fit around about the seven/eight week mark.

have had to keep mat jeans up with step-dad's braces,(under top tho, cant see them unless u know) so feel a bit clownish but saves me having to drag them up from my ankles every two seconds.

I had to buy jeans one size up from 8 weeks, couldn't believe it! I was looking at pictures of my first pregnancy and at 21 weeks I looked exactly the same as i do now - at 16 weeks!

Just put on my mat jeans for the first time yesterday - am 11 weeks today.

Saying that though, I have been wearing my ordinary jeans mostly undone (with long tops over) for ages cos I couldn't do them up any more, and the only reason I didn't get the maternity stuff out earlier was because I didn't want to give the game away as most of them are obviously maternity clothes!

Prob at around 8 weeks....although I did manage to dig out lots of old 'fat-day' trousers. Still managing to get away with non-mat things at work at 14 weeks.

8 weeks! Lovely! I actually looked less pregnant in them.

I am really glad to read this as I am 7 weeks on my 3rd pregnancy and already not fitting but I was low carbing before my positive test so I thought that maybe it was that. But my tummy already feels huge.

I am nearly 11 weeks and had no choice but to crack open the maternity clothes at 9 weeks. At which point people (at playgroup etc) were already starting to notice that I have a bump and asking me if I was pregnant. I already look about 5 months gone. It's crazy. No chance of keeping it a secret until 12 weeks. God knows what I'm going to look like at term.

I didn't start wearing maternity clothes until I was about 22 weeks, although I was very sick for the first 20 weeks and so lost lots of weight. This is about the same time as with DD. I was really looking forward to showing earlier this time, but it's all come in the last 10 weeks (I'm 34 weeks on thurs).

I had to wear maternity stuff at about 4 months but every thing was way too tight at 12 weeks. I had terrible bloating though.

I had to go in to mat jeans at 9 weeks, but I could wear other types of non mat clothes at that stage, was fully in mat clothes by about 12 weeks.

Think I made it to 12 week scan without having to dig out mat clothes this time, but definitely feel about a month fatter than with DC1. Question is, does this continue, or will it slow down a bit?

9 weeks with my second. I made it to 22 with my first. If it makes you feel any better, oddly enough, I lost the weight much faster with no. 2, and was back into some of my "regular" clothes in less than a week after giving birth.

Hi congratulations

My usual clothes started to feel tight around 8 weeks. I felt so down in the dumps about it as I was over 6 months with DS1. No one really said anything but I could tell they were looking, then as soon as the news was out, around 12-13 weeks I grew even more haha!! I am now 18 weeks and the bump is there now for sure, I'm up a dress size in normal clothes and definitely wearing maternity clothing as often as I can for the comfort!!

Good news though...the bump has slowed down with it's growth spurt (thank goodness)Though i'm sure it'll balloon again...but hey ho I'm passed caring now, and if people comment I just reply saying "it is meant to be getting bigger" and give them a smile that suggests they shut up hee hee!!!

Good luck with your bump

The day I did the test, and I probably could have done with it before then.

Hee hee, this thread assumes we ever got OUT of maternity clothes.... Or is that just me

This may sound like desperate justification, but if all you have to do is go up into the attic for your mat clothes rather than start shopping for them, it's a whole heap easier so you're likely to get into them early. I found it was like having a whole new wardrobe!

I was back in my Mat jeans pretty quickly, def around 12 weeks. I was quite happy though as they are the most expensive jeans I own!

itsalwaysthequietones · 23/07/2009 13:45

At 9 weeks now, clothes still fit ok but I'm sure people will start to notice the little pot belly v soon. It's really quite obvious. With DD I didn't show for months and months

I got it all down out of the loft at about 11 weeks. From about week 7 until then I was relying on long tops and regular trousers with the button undone.

Not a great look.

I am 14wks now and have been in bigger size/loose clothes since about 8wks. I am about the size I was at 20-24wks last time. Lol at MN preg calendar about your ab muscles just expanding!

Never! I don't do maternity clothes..and am now 29 weeks with no3. Two reasons, a) I'm skint (and cheap anyway) and b) I appear to be an odd shape and couldn't find anything that fitted that I could afford.

I wear a combo of my regular jeans/trousers slung really low under the bump, and some old clothes I had in the back of the press from when i was 2 sizes bigger. And most of my tops are long ones or I wear dresses over the top so you can't see the groanin waistbands and open buttons!

Anyone else the same?
