When do I have contact with the midwife? Am 10 weeks pregnant now...

Went to see GP 5 weeks ago and was told would be referred to antenatal clinic.

I haven't heard anything so rang GP and was told that it can take a while as they refer me to the antenatal clinic at the hospital.

I haven't had any correspondence at all - surely I should have had something by now?

Hmm, I'd have thought you'd have been in telephone contact at least by now. Round here you get given their number and told to get in touch. Does your surgery have a website where you can find out who the midwife will be and just get hold of her? Or ask the receptionist for the antenatal clinic's number?

Congratulations, and hope you're feeling well!

i would call your gp and if they cannot help ask if you can contact the hospital direct. you should see a mw by 10 weeks as you need bloods taken and you should be booked in for a scan at 12 weeks too.
welcome. your baby must be due at back end of jan, there is a thread for ladies due as i am on it too.

Round here it's a bit different (Staffs)

You see the midwife in hosp for your booking in apt at 12 weeks, followed immediately by your scan. Then you get a 16 week blood apt to check downs risk etc. Then you're abandoned till 28 weeks

Very different from when I had DS1 2.5 yrs ago, back then I saw a midwife every 4 weeks from 12 weeks.

However I would ring your community midwifery team and check, as I would've thought you'd at least had your scan date through by now. Congratulations btw ! and well done for not being heavily pregnant in this hot weather, you've timed it perfectly

I went to see my GP at 7 weeks and I heard nothing until about 12 weeks!

I phoned the antenatal clinic at the hospital almost daily (after a week of the GP sending off the stuff) to see whether my referal had arrvied and even booked in for a private scan elsewhere. They called me a couple of days before my provate 12 week scan and gave me all the details of scan and I got the midwife booking about a week later.

And Congratulations!!

Like you I saw my GP at approx 5 weeks, but I only received my letter for appointment with midwife when I should have been 11 weeks (I had a MMC and the letter arrived the day after my surgical procedure even though ti should have been cancelled (apparently)! ). The appointment would have been when I was about 13 weeks.

It bothered me a lot that people on MN seemed to be able to call their midwives with questions in early pregnancy when they were worried ... but that I never even met mine!

With this hindsight experience Skedaddle, I plan to DEMAND a faster appointment should I ever get pregnant again. I think BlueChampagne's advice is good and in your shoes I would try get hold of her direct. Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

I rang the hospital who said they hadn't received any referral, then rang my GP who said they had sent it. So I asked them to send it again, but ended up nearly in tears as I'm worried I won't get my 12 week scan. I had a m/c last time and don't think I can hold out any longer to make sure everything is ok.

So, just waiting for my scan date now - fingers crossed it's soon!
