Feeling knackered week 41 - will this slow onset of labour?

Hi, I am 40+1 today, it is very hot and I have had back pain for the last two weeks so not feeling up for much activity when I can avoid it. Does being less active have an impact on when labour sets in? Am really desperate to get things going soon (this is my 2nd baby, first was 4 days late and I would rather not be induced) but physically not feeling up for much and taking every opportunity to get help with my toddler...Any thoughts?

Hi, sorry to hear you are having a tough time. I am nearly 38 weeks and feeling just the same, my DD was 12 days late so i am not holding out much hope!

I have heard that keeping active does indeed help, and crawling etc is great for getting position right, if position is right it should speed up!

Good luck x

Oh, I am hoping that I am not too inactive - although for my standards I am hardly doing anything. Still cleaning out my horse's stable every day though not much else bar running after my 2-year-old (when I have to) and baby is well engaged now so hope I don't have to wait too long, Good luck to you too! x

it's awful isn't it, esp in this heat. i took my DD to softplay earlier and feel totally done in now!

The only thing that brought labour on for me last time was sex, not sure i fancy that at the moment tho but it may work if you get desperate!

I'm 40+3 and know exactly what you mean. DS is with my mum today and I can't move - am glued to the sofa with a fan and the tennis on - I seem to alternate between feeling ok (went swimming and for quite a long walk yesterday and did lots of playing) then totally knackered...if I went into labour today I don't think I'd have the energy to go through it.

My sister's dd arrived in weather like this and a thunderstorm set her off. Keeping my fingers crossed for a break in the weather...

...and the thought of sex at this size and in this heat?????

Good luck!

rachel i did exactly that today! i sat on the sofa and watched the horrid Andy Murray (why can't he be a nice person!) and couldn't move. Luckily DD is at nursery tomorrow so more of the same for me.

Roll on thunderstorms! i hope i go early as i have 2 weeks left and cannot imagine being this huge and hot for another 2-3 weeks! ARGH!

Sex was the only thing tha worked for me last time by the way but yes i agree, in this heat ... noooooo.

I have been having lower back pains and really horrid pains in the low part of tummy, almost like baby is punching my bladder and that area, if that makes sense ... come on body start early please!

Good luck to you too, keep in touch! I wonder if uspy got lucky! hope so for her x

Hi everyone! At last, baby was born on 1 July after a short labour and very uncomplicated birth, hurrah! I was not sure I could make it through labour as I felt so exhausted but it was a lot quicker this time (jut 2 1/2 hrs established labour - had 16hrs with my first!) I managed with just gas and air as it all came rather fast - so glad it is out (now the heat is over too for those of you still waiting) - I wish you all good luck for your birth experiences in the coming days and weeks!!!
xx
