For those of you that didn't have hyperemesis, how long did the nausea last?

Because at 12+6 I don't think I can stand it much longer. It is constant and I am thoroughly miserable. I have felt sick since 6 weeks, and had a full week of keeping nothing down. I'm not being sick, just a bit of retching, but I still feel absolutely awful.

It lasted until 11 weeks last time. At my 12 week scan I was told that I had a corpus luteum cyst on my ovary that releases progesterone, and has usually gone by 12 weeks. In my case it is still there, and the sonographer said that would be contributing to the nausea. Does that mean the end is not in sight?

I so want to be excited but I just feel too crap.

nauseating bump

KittyTN Fri 26-Jun-09 11:33:53

I always thought it was beta-HCG that made you feel sick. I'm 8+3 and feeling utterly foul. Mostly wretching and spitting only occasional vomitting. It lasted past 16 weeks last time - so no comfort there! I lost over 1 stone during first trimester last time.

At least you know it's not twins or a molar pregnancy. It wont last forever - just until the heartburn starts!!!

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 11:36:40

<cries with relief that someone has responded>

I'm glad you've said that Kitty, googling I could find no link between a CL cyst and morning sickness. Maybe she was just trying to make me feel better by offering me some kind of explanation for the nausea.

I think part of the problem is psychological, I feel a bit like no one cares. <whinge whinge> If I say I need to rest everyone rolls their eyes and looks at me as if I'm pathetic, and need to get a grip because of dd. Who has a perfectly capable father, I might add.

Mine lasted to about the 15 week mark to be honest - I am 23 weeks now and still have the odd bout of it but that's normally connected to bad indigestion.

I'm so glad the days of constantly feeling nauseous and throwing up are over. Eurgh it's hard work and very draining!!

KittyTN Fri 26-Jun-09 11:52:18

The first trimester is so hard. People think that no bump = no problem! You dont want to tell the world that you're PG, just in case but when you do tell friends how bad you feel 10:1 they say something like 'I became sensitive to strong smells'. Not really appreciating the full misery of 'proper' morning sickness!!

My ds has been very sweet - whenever he sees my sick bowel he runs over and starts spitting in it! At least someone acknowledges my situation!

VAB Fri 26-Jun-09 11:56:51

Ah bless him!

I forgot about how everything tastes and smells eurgh. I have super smelling skills now!!

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 11:58:36

I've heard a few 15 week tales, and some 17 weeks. So I have 17 weeks in my mind.

Picante Fri 26-Jun-09 11:59:30

I don't think I should tell you...

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 12:00:18

So without actually graduating to HG, nausea can last the entire pg?

Joy27 Fri 26-Jun-09 12:02:21

I sympathise... I'm 8w 1d and retching has become a regular part of my day (no actual puking- not sure if this is good or bad thing).

Just had a meeting in the kitchen at work where people brew fresh coffee in an espresso machine. Thought I was going to pass out from the (usually lovely- now vile to me) smell, but couldn't say anything without making it totally obvious that I am up the duff! "Are you alright?" my colleague asked as I clutched my stomach. I could only nod as I'd retch if I opened my mouth. Sigh.

Not sure of the whys and wherefores or how long it lasts... but I just wanted to show some solidarity!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid Fri 26-Jun-09 12:02:54

With me it was around 13 or 14 weeks I think.

I know some people do have sickness all the way through their pregnancy.

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 12:03:32

But surely that's HG, LovelyRita?

VAB Fri 26-Jun-09 12:03:32

Personally I now (23 wks) just get sudden bouts of feeling sick, being sick and then moaning for 1/2 hour. I then feel fine. I don't have that lingering nauseous feeling which I think is the worst bit!!

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 12:05:09

<crying at desk now>

I just feel so crap.

fatandiknowit Fri 26-Jun-09 13:13:39

Till 14 weeks for me..

But the issues with smells making me gag a bit carried on until 16 weeks...

However if I eat something unusal or very fatty or spicy I get a little ave of it again - linked to indigestion

mammyknowsbest Fri 26-Jun-09 13:30:16

With DD1 it ended at about 12/13 weeks. Then I had a sudden rush of energy for the rest of my pregnancy (well, up until the last week when I felt knackered) I felt great and super fit !!!!!
BUT
with DD2 it lasted all through my pregnancy. I kept thinking it would end after week 12 like the last time but it didn't and I steadily got worse but I kept on waiting for the light at the end of the toilet bowl, it never arrived and I lost weight. It got to the point where I couldn't even keep water down and had to go to hospital. I was then given medication (Cyclazine[sp?]) for the remainder of my pregnancy.

All I'm saying is all bumps are different and keep an eye on the sickness. If it doesn't improve within the next couple of weeks then go to the GP. Don't do what I did and hang on. I only made myself worse.

I am thinking of you all because the sickness is bloody awful but I'm hoping you ALL see light at the end of the toilet bowl soon and can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
Take care. xx

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 13:35:10

You see this is my point - I am not being sick. I just feel sick. So surely that's not HG, as it sounds like you had mammyknowsbest, surely it's just common garden morning sickness?

sifuentes Fri 26-Jun-09 14:29:06

pinkjenny sometimes that is worse though. Sometimes i throw up after not having felt that sick other times i have been dying to puke just for a bit of respite.

my acupunturist said 14-16 weeks is quite normal if you've had it quite badly.

You will get better. I am 11 today and have had only very very slight nausea so far so am hoping i may have turned a corner (obviously madly hoping it's not bad news)

good luck - i really feel for you. you just want someone to be able to tell you categoricallly when it will be over. However in the mean time you must keep trying to eat and drink even if it's only sips and small bites. I found cornflakes and very cold milk was always ok as was very very cold melon and apples, oh and lemon barley water is nicer to drink than water. I promise that you will feel better the more that is in your stomach. you have to keep it up because the emptier it gets the worse you feel - no question.

good luck xx

Pinkjenny Fri 26-Jun-09 14:53:18

sifuentes - thanks for being so nice.

Horsiemummy Fri 26-Jun-09 18:42:15

yup - till 17 weeks for me!

at that point i went to the gp and begged him to give me something to make it stop.

it was all day long and nothing would reduce it, proper vomiting and constant nausea. i know exactly what you feel about wanting to be excited but just feeling too crap!

now newly pregnant with number 2 and im preying that it will be better this time around!

keep your chin up hun.xx

raindroprhyme Fri 26-Jun-09 19:19:09

i was not sick with my first 2 but am miserable with this pregnancy. i bought sea bands yesterday and feel like a new woman. still have waves of nausea but not constant all day salivating minging mouth and guts.
i even had sex with my husband last night he was very surprised as i have been unable to even give him a peck on the cheek for the last 4 weeks.

MoominMymbleandMy Fri 26-Jun-09 19:35:58

I didn't vomit very often but I felt nauseous all day long until seven months with the first pregnancy, and all the way through the second pregnancy.

It is very hard to be excited when you feel so wretched.

Nibbling throughout the day on bland foods helped me best.

flowerybeanbag Fri 26-Jun-09 19:40:53

Sorry you're still feeling rotten PJ.

I have been exactly the same, retching and feeling very sick, but have only been sick a few times.

Mine eased up around 17-18 weeks. Now at 20+5 it's basically gone, just the occasional bleurgh feeling if I haven't eaten in a while.

MommyHasaHeadache Fri 26-Jun-09 19:43:36

I had 10 weeks of morning sickness hell. 7 - 17 weeks of utter misery. And when the morning sickness ended, I then went off food and all food made me feel sick just at the thought. Hope you feel better soon!
