Premature rupture of membranes@ 17wks

Hi, im new to this site and im worried about my baby boy. I was hospitalized for 4 days 2 weeks ago b/c of bleeding and cramping. My placenta had detached a tiny bit from my uterus and is sitting near my cervix. That following tuesday morning around 5am my water broke(membranes ruptured) and i figured it was the bleeding. Also the fluid wasnt clear due to the bleeding at the time either. When i went to the dr. the ultrasound confirmed it. I had no amniotic fluid around the baby, but that week before I did. Me and my fiance' decided to continue with the pregnancy with the very poor prognosis. I was terrified at first but prayer has truly helped me. It has been 1 week since my membranes ruptured. Im barely bleeding and im not cramping at all. I was prescribed antibiotics and have to check my temperature 2x daily. Has anyone experienced this before or know someone who has???

I really feel for you - this is a tough one. I had PROM in my first pregnancy - probably around 13-14 weeks, but it wasn't picked up until a scan at 18 weeks. I waited for two weeks, resting to see if the membrane would heal itself as this can happen. In my case this didn't happen, sadly, and we opted for a termination at 20 weeks as the baby had no chance to develop properly without amniotic fluid.

At this stage you must be worried sick, and you therefore need proper support and advice from specialists who can talk you thorough the various possible outcomes and options. If you don't feel you're getting the support you need at the hospital, cry, scream, call and badger them until you get it. Go to A&E if you have to, but hopefully you'll find a sympathetic doctor who can help you. It is an awful situation to be in and I really hope things go well for you.

You could try BLISS the premature baby site, I think they have a message board and people who have experienced this. Fingers crossed for you, keep posting, lots of support on here.

landonmom.. with my first I had SPROM.. at 21weeks.. I didnt know until i went for a check up at 28weeks, where they discovered my bump was 6weeks to small.. on the scan I had very little amniotic fluid the deepest patch was 1mm,. The consultant had told me that it looked like my membranes had ruptured 6weeks previous, as the baby had a condition called dolicopholus!!(sp) basically the skull bones crossing over resemblong a cone..
I was admitted straight away and given all sorts of tests, an amniosenticious, on what little fluid was there to rule out infection.. As they couldnt see any lungs on the scan at this stage which they should at 28weeks I was given and MRI scan , and they could see the lungs forming so started me on dexamethasone.
I was kept in hospital until I delivered my daughter be c-section at 36weeks (due to my placenta starting to fail) ( in total 8weeks in hospital to the day i had DD then another week after thre birth so 9 weeks in total)

I was given high vaginal swaps twice a weeek, bloods taken twice a week and mminimum of 2 scans a week, checking for growth, and doppler.

When DD was born she weighed 4lb 14oz (2.2kg)
she was whisked away and given a lumbar puncture to check for infection, andput onto antibiotics. She is now a healthy sporty 12 and a half year old..

I know I was further on than you put I hope the story helps a little.. I never had any contractions either which astounded my medical team in St Georges (Tooting) every week they kept telling me I was going to deliver.. but my dd was a fighter and held on.. Good luck hun xx
( I have gone on to have two more pregnancies with no comlications at all.. and I now on my forth pregnancy but early days)

landanmom - sorry to hear you are going through this I hope things work out ok for you. I am 28+1 weeks and my membranes ruptured three days ago. I was kept in hospital (St. Georges) for 3 days but d/c yesterday as the CTG trace and my physical observations were all fine. No sign of labour/infection. It is very worrying though I was hoping for a scan but they said there was no indication for one. I'd have thought they would want to check growth, given that there is less fluid around the baby.

Appt went well today. Heartbeat was perfect and my placenta has moved up and out of the way a little. My babies organs are perfectly fine and growing great. My deepest level of amniotic fluid is 3.3cm when the average is about 10cm. Im so thankful of that little bit though b/c things could be worse. Thank you guys for checking on me and i wll keep posting. Bless you all

Good news landanmom Take it easy and try not to do too much. Did the doctors give you any advice about what to avoid etc.? I didn't get any advice apart from to take my temperature and pulse 4 times a day and observe for any changes in colour/smell of waters.

Hi, I just posted to you on another thread.

My waters went at 12 weeks. Had loads of bleeding etc. I went to the doctors who confirmed that my cervix plug had come away and that I was indeed MC. They told me to go home and return the next morning when it would be over.

Anyway fast forward to 17 weeks and still bleeding slightly but everything was starting to heal.

At 19 weeks I stopped bleeding.

At 21 weeks a scan showed my DD had lost her left forearm in the womb. The only explanation being that the rupture had caused amniotic threads which had tightened around her limbs.

But the story ends with a cheeky 3 Year Old who will not get to bed!!! She was 5 days overdue!

The fact that your LO has held on is really promising. With every day there is a better chance that everything will be OK.

XX God Bless XX

ladylush- the doctors told me to take it easy and to avoid lifting heavy things, running, and too much activity basically. I have to check my temperature 2x a day. Which it usually 96.5 degrees F. It is ok for me to work now too. Im a dental hygienist so im sitting most of the time Today im 19 weeks and im still feeling better, no cramping or heavy bleeding. Its really light pink or a peachy color now, sorry tmi. I have an appt next monday and thursday for blood work and such to make sure im not getting an infection and to make sure the baby is still doing well. Im staying positive knowing that every day counts

Well ladies today makes it 2 weeks since my water broke. Ive been feeling good and still experiencing the normal preggers, lol. Im staying positive and stress free. I broke down in tears 2 days ago because i just had to cry. I got it all out and back on track now and staying strong for my baby boy. He really needs mommy right now and i do all i can to stay calm. I talk to him and pray for him through out each day. I try to speak life into him and let him know that i love him and that he is protected. We all know what happens when you talk to a flower, it grows. So imagine what happens when we speak to our tiny precious, they will grow. They can hear the calmness of our voices and feel that love that only we as moms can give I have an appt this thursday again, lets hope and pray for the best

How did your appt. go landanmom?

Report

My appt. went good. Everything is still looking ok. In 4wks i will be admitted into the hospital until i will be induced at 34wks. So i will be there for 10wks, ahhhh!!!! Its for the best and they will keep a close eye on the baby to insure the best care. If anything starts to look funky i will be induced and that will increase the baby chances of surviving. I feel deep in my heart that everything will be alright though. I just have to be patient and tough it out.
