Pregnancy

Has anyone got signed off work in early pregnancy to try and prevent miscarriage?

Background. Had MMC at 10 weeks (emby died at 6.5-7weeks) about 40 odd days ago and somehow got pregnant again straight away- and will be 5 weeks tommorrow.

My job is incredibly incredibly stressful (and something kicked off today which sent stress levels through the roof) and am wondering about maybe trying to get signed off between 6-8 weeks just to try and get this one to stick and grow. Thing is stress probably didn't cause last MMC as was on honeymoon in Thailand for the last 3 weeks of the pregnancy but I also want to make sure I do everything in my power to make this a keeper. (Am working my notice period at mo and have 7 weeks left- if only they would just let me go now but then again I wouldn't get paid over the summer-am a teacher!)

Ack I guess since as yet (and touch wood I won't be) I am not a recurrent miscarrier so the doc may laugh me out of the room.

Anyone got signed off before? Do you think it made a diff?
(I know really the crux of it is nothing I do or don't do will actually prevent or cause another MC but I know I will feel so much better away from stress and I want to feel proactive and that I tried IYSWIM?)

Yes I was, was signed off at about 6 weeks for a total of 5 or 6 weeks (until I was about 13 weeks pg) Although the dr only signed me off for blocks of 1 or 2 weeks at a time, but I went back and was resigned off iyswim.

However, I was spotting slightly at the time, and like you had had a m/c the previous month, and had another m/c a year or so before that AND had had an ectopic pg a few years before as well. The dr actually offered the first time..I didn't even know they could!!

Worth knowing thanks. I may just speak to may doc and explain the situation.

It may be too complicated in the end and more hassle than benefit but will see. Starting to feel grim already!

i have been allowed to permanantly work from home from week 20 - 33 following placenta previa diagnosis at 20 weeks ( i am nearly 26 weeks and fingers crossed i can stay at home and not be hospitalised). I don't intend to go back before baby comes and will use accrued annual leave from 33 weeks until maternity leave kicks in. I thought the commute into central london would be too risky / stressful and I was lucky enough to have an understanding boss and a job that can be done at home.

I have been signed off work since 4.5 weeks pregnant due to bleeding which stopped after about 4 days. Now 15 weeks. Had 2 previous mc and have a stressful and busy job so hospital and gp agreed best for me to not be there. It's true that there is no evidence that resting will prevent mc. However from a psychological point of view the hospital. my gp and myself agreed that that trying everything possible to keep this baby was the number one priority and that work would have to wait. I do really feel that resting has made the difference this time but we'll never really know. My Gp wrote 'pregnancy complications' on my line as she feels that the emotional/psycological issues still come under this umbrella. I was initially signed off for 4 weeks and now it's every 2 weeks. Oh and after my 2nd mc i didn;t want my work to know so my GP wrote 'abdominal condition' on my line, so that's always an option for you.
Hope this helps and your GP is as understanding as mine. Good luck!

Well I got my wish

Signed off for next two weeks after a day spent in A&E with a suspected ectopic. Scan showed it wasn't but they have to rescan in 10days as no HB seen (because its too early- not worried just yet)

If this one works out I plan on trying to stay signed off until 9 weeks at least.
