Help clear blue conception indicator

Hi I am 5+2 weeks pregnant from ivf frozen embryo transfer. Had a mmc in feb also from ivf. I have been using the clear blue conception indicator and it still says 2-3 week from conception ie 4-5 weeks pg. I was wondering if anyone else has used these and if so when it went up to 3+ weeks. Had back ache and a few cramps at the weekend terrified I have had an other mmc.

The conception indicator is not as reliable as people think. It measures how far you are by how high your hormone levels are however not everyone's hormone levels go up at the same rate. So there is not any way to say when it will go to 3 weeks I'm afraid.

Cedar - these are only a rough guide, something around the 90% average. You are only 2days past the 3weeks post conception, and remember implantation can take place at different times. So I think that give it another few days before thinking the worst. I am 5weeks+1 today, and I am purposefully waiting til saturday to do the conception indicator test, as I want to be sure that I get a 3+ so that I do not worry. Obviously if I do not get a 3+ at the weekend then I will start to wonder about it, but I think at our stage of pregnancy with histories of previous m/c's it is easy to get hung up on things. I hope that we both have good outcomes this time.

Out of curiosity, at what stage did the test turn from 1-2 to 2-3weeks for you?

I got hung up on this a while ago - in my case though, it never moved on from "Pregnant 1 - 2" and I mc'ed at 5+5.

I think a few days difference is fine - there has to be a tolerance level. I'd leave it and check again when you hit 6 weeks

Then why not wait and see if I get a 3+ on saturday (it is a week since I did my first test and it said 2-3) and if you do one on Monday (a week from the first one), we will hopefully both get our our 3+'s. I am also getting the backpain and cramps, but just hoping that it is all to do with uterus stretching etc. When do you think you will test again?

I will try not to test until saturday. Clear blue are making a fortune out of me.

Cedar - I think we were on the AC thread at the same time. I tested last Friday at 4w5d and only got a 1-2 (at 5am), panicked for waited 3 hours without a drink in between and got a 2-3. I'm nervous about testing again in case I don't get the 3+. Have piap twice and thrown it away because it looked too dilute. I think you get so used to drinking the 3 litres of water a day on IVF that you don't get the same concentrations of hormone in your urine as the miss average they trial these things on. That's what I'm telling myself anyway .

Also 'normal' hcg levels have a huge range, so if you're on the low end you could stay at 1-2 and be perfectly fine and at the high end you'd be getting a 3+ at only 2 weeks. Interesting that if you read the 'Healthcare Professionals' bit of the Clearblue website it says that the indicator is only ~75% accurate at 2-3 weeks.

Good luck for everyone testing again at the weekend hope you get your 3+.

Cedar - I can echo what others have said.
When I was 4+4 (and I was certain of my dates) my CBD said "pregnant 1-2 weeks".
But a scan showed a perfectly sized embryo and am now 18 weeks. A few days later I retested and it had gone up. The conception indicator is not as accurate as you might wish.

Congratulations on your BFP!

Thanks, I am just so terrified some thing is going to go wrong again. I have been here so many times before. I have got an early scan next week as I have had 2 ectopic pregancies in the past and a mmc then another scan at 8 weeks. I really think clear blue have got a lot to answer for. I wish I can resist testing! Thanks again every one.

Fingers crossed for you. My BFP was after 2 ectopics and a CP so good things do happen, even after that lot!

Thanks for that reassurance Mrs Happy. Understand your fears cedar - I've only had one mc at 4w6d and a cp at 3w6d and am a wreck about having another.

I tested again this morning and still at 2-3, but am trying not to worry. Pregnant word coming up within a minute, boobs still hurting and intermittent ms have got to better signs than the silly indicator. That test really is the work of the devil.

Cedar and Issy - how are you doing?

Cedar did you test this morning?

I did, and I am very pleased and relieved to get my 3+. Funny how these things seem important when pg. But after two early m/c in the last few months, I am finally starting to allow myself to believe that I might be pg!!!!

I hope you will both come and update.

Good news Rainbow - CB are great but boy can they add to the stress!!
I fairly sure I conceived 3 weeks yesterday and my 3+ came up yesterday morning.
We pin so much on these tests but we all know there is a massive range and therefore overlap with all the stages!
How are you other ladies doing?

mowmi · 23/05/2009 08:49

Rainbow forgot to say - I also had a mc earlier this year... living in quite massive fear at the moment but trying to talk to myself in to enjoying it this time and looking forward. If it goes wrong I wont be any less broken hearted than if I walked around with a massive cloud above my head!!
Best of luck x

Cedar you're right to try not to worry - the ranges are huge.
Hope it moves soon for you x

Cedar - It will only be a week since you got your first 2-3 on monday, so testing a week on should mean you get your 3+ then, it might have been that your hormone levels were only just changing from the 1-2 to 2-3 week level on last monday, and therefore you would only be changing from the 2-3 to 3+ this coming monday. Also remember that the concentration of urine makes a difference too. I was all ready to throw out my fmu this morning if it looked too dilute. I hope that you get a reassurance soon.

Mowmi - congrats on your 3+, hope you can start enjoying it.

Issy - how are you doing?

Cedar, I really think you should stop testing. Honestly it just adds to the stress and wastes your money. Maybe you could call the EPAU and try to get your scan bumped up to Tues? I have to say that with the kind of history we both have I found it takes quite a long time to relax and enjoy pregnancy (am 18 weeks and still worry on a daily basis). But the scan will make things a lot clearer than a crappy CB test.

Hi everyone wasnt going to test but couldnt resist! thank goodness it was 3+. Feel a bit better about having scan now was so worried they were go to say there was nothing there. Thanks for everyones wise words these test are definatly the devils work. I have been thinking back 7 years when I was pg with my dd got pg after 3 months and had a pretty straight forward pg. Never thought it could be this hard after 4.5 years of ttc and loosing 3 babies. I just wish I could feel that way again and not worrying and enjoy it. My scan is on wednesday afternoon so will post afterwards.

Think its more she has had IVF and wants to know if the pregnancy hormones are increasing, which would sugest that the pregnacy in progressing as normal.

reassurance more than anything
