Help - have my waters broken?!!

Need advice. I am 38+2 weeks gone. DH and I have just indulged in a little bit of 'that'!! At the end there was a lot more fluid than normal (sorry for the gory details). Since then I have had an overwhelming urge to go to the loo twice but have had no further leakage.

Have had an ache across the top of my belly all day and had 'period cramps' for about the last week. Should I call the hospital as I have had no more leakage?

Although a 2nd time mum it was very obvious last time that they had broken so now not sure what to do - please help!!

with mine, my waters broke before contractions at 4am in the morning, i had a slight gush, then trickles pretty much until dd was born 28 hrs later, from what i can remember it was like slimey water, if you keep trickling i would guess its your waters, i remember when i rang the hospital they said put a sanitary towel on and keep checking to see if they were definately my waters

call the hospital and explain - they will tell u whether it could be your waters or not.... and if pains continue i would say the sex was a job well done and we will await the birth announcement!!!!

mears Mon 02-May-05 23:04:43

puddytats - just put on a sanitary towel and keep an eye on things. Doesn't sound convincing that your waters have broken. The last thing you want to do is call the hospital and have to trail there at this time of night. With any luck you might have stimulated things a bit. Don't exhaust yourself by marching round about to get things going though. Try and get some sleep. HTH.

Thank you for your swift replies, don't want to look like a totalidiot if nothing has happened - especially as I have to wake my sister up to get her to look after ds!

puddytats Mon 02-May-05 23:07:53

Thank you mears. Will go back to bed now and at least pretend to sleep! Will keep you all updated.

You sound like I did on the 13th May 2004, I posted here after going to the loo (nowt as exciting as your method!) and I felt an audible pop, phoned the hospital and was told to wait, I got a few replies on here and decided to go for a bath, dried off and sorted myself out with a sanitary pad (expecting to be a while). 20 mins later we were on the way to the hospital (30 mins drive away!) DS was born just 4 hours later.

Good luck, so excited for you XXXXXX

I did a thread like this too, trying to convince my hung over DP that this was it! He insisted I should come back to bed and they would seal back up again! I was 37+6! I'm not sure that they have gone- once they went for me they didn't stop. Hopefully as mears said though, you will have helped things on their way!

Will had pains from bout 12-4 but they seem to have stopped now and everything feems 'normal' so have no idea what that means!!

Called hospital bout 3.30 and they said to page my midwife this morning if nothing too much has happened and she will come out to examine me and see if anything has happened so planning on doing that this morning!

lilsmum Tue 03-May-05 08:12:53

puddytats...did you put a towel on? do you think your waters went?

puddytats Tue 03-May-05 08:16:12

Yes have had a towel on all night, it felt a little damp but colourless, nothing out of the ordinary really!

lilsmum Tue 03-May-05 08:20:12

maybe you have just loosened everything up
the pains sound promising, but there again i had braxtons for a couple of weeks before, each time i got them they were stronger and was ringing around asking everyone... is this it??

keep us posted, and i will look out for your birth announcment (hopefully soon)

Toothache Tue 03-May-05 08:20:20

Puddytats - I knew it was my waters trickling as it kind of gushed when I sneezed!!

Sounds like your little sesh with your DH moved things along. Thats what happened to me with my 2nd baby. Had mild back pain and a tiny bleed after sex.... went to the hospital 2 hrs later and I was 2-3cm. The did a sweep and sent me home. When nothing had started by the next day I pounced on DH again! Within 4 hours of that I was experiencing back pain again. Went back to the hospital and I was 4 cm!! Wahey!

Dd was born a few hours later at 39+2wks.

Have just been examined by midwife and she thinks waters have gone and need to call hospital 8am tomorrow morning to go in for further monitering.

That was about an hour ago. I have now started bleeding fresh blood. Is this normal after an internal examination and swab? Sorry so many questions but so different from last time so not sure what is going on.

Agree with rickman, give the hospital a ring, they will probably say to go in.

Flossam Tue 03-May-05 12:37:22

Ring up. I did start bleeding during labour, but that was only a couple of hours before DS was born, and it scared the hell out of me. This early on is not normal imo, ring the midwife pronto. Let us know how it goes. xx

Toothache Tue 03-May-05 13:23:22

Puddytats - I'm going to disagree with folks here! I bled fresh red blood after an internal at 24 wks. And I bled again after my membrane sweep at 39wks. They told me not to be alarmed.
But still, you should phone the hospital and let them know.

Are you excited??? I AM!

Distel Tue 03-May-05 13:24:40

Any news ????????????

Tinker Tue 03-May-05 13:26:31

I also bled red blood after a sweep, was told this was normal. Baby born that evening though. May as well ring, nothing to lose.

puddytats Tue 03-May-05 17:59:47

Got back from the hospital a couple of hours ago. They think that it was the 'show (although I am convinced that I had that a couple of weeks ago)

I am booked to go back in at 9am tomorrow morning if nothing has happened for another assessment and we will go from there. Just had Hot Chilli Nachos for lunch and a long hot bath, plan to go for a walk this evening as well!

pupuce Tue 03-May-05 18:17:18

I'd go for sex rather than walk... you could do stairs as well just to make sure baby is quite low into pelvis.
Keep us posted

puddytats Tue 03-May-05 18:35:16

Unfortunatly have been told to keep away from sex in case waters have broken. Anyway that is what got it all started it off last nigh - enough trouble to put me off it for life now

pupuce Wed 04-May-05 09:00:18

So what's happening this AM?

puddytats Wed 04-May-05 13:25:55

Got to the hospital at 9 for more monitoring. They have now decided that there is not enough conclusive evidence (?) that my waters have even partially broken. They did another internal and said the only thing that they could see was old bloody mucas, probably from the internal yesterday morning. They are fairly sure that the blood yesterday was the show - I am sure I had this a couple of weeks ago but apparently you can have more than one.

All they want to do at this stage is monitor so I have another midwife visit at home tomorrow and they have to go back in to hospital on sat if nothing has happened.

Feeling a little frustrated and also that they feel I am making a fuss. Apparently the fluid loss the other night could simply have been increased discharge? Considering the amount that came out I would be very surprised but got the feeling that no matter what I said today they were not prepared to change their stance so I have to keep playing the waiting game!
