Braxton hicks..lots of them, 38 weeks is this a sign it's close?

I'm getting loads of Braxton Hicks today, no pain at all but have had too many to count. Is this a sign that I'm close to labour? This is my first and think I may be a little eager to find signs.
(the fact that I am a lumbering behmoth whose hips are killing her and hasn't had a good nights sleep since days of yore has NOTHING to do with it!)

Sorry to be the one to tell you but no. It could be a sign that you are over-doing things and need to put your feet up however.

I had weeks of them and DC4 was still 2 weeks late.

On the otherhand, everyone is different and it could be your body limbering up. Despite being late, I got to 6cm dialated with no pain and the labour was very managable.

So if it is and it doesn't happen it could all be for the good!

Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you

Thanks for the reply, I am really hoping for the pain free option! I do have problems with sitting still but think I may have to listen to what my body is saying, my cankles are screaming for some rest!

This is my 2nd and have been having braxton hicks quite strongly since 16 weeks. They seem to get a lot stronger at night when baby is moving around more and after I've been hoovering or cleaning a bit too much. Really wish they would turn into something more though as I swear I'm going mad imagining labour starting. Last time I was 11 days over & had to be induced and had strong braxton hicks also. I really want to go early this time and think I' going to wear the kitchen tiles away cleaning them a few times every day as it gets the braxton hicks going very strongly. (38+3)

Keep in touch shell and let me know how you get on, your nervous thread was the first I read on here and I was so happy iwasn't alone in My thoughts.

no niggles for me shell and the braxton hicks have slowed down a lot, only had 2 today but have done absolutely nothing all day...well popped to the shops to get some ice pops and have a sniff of Halfords (my craving is new car smell ) am just waiting for them to freeze so I can devour the lot!
I really am trying to remember that I have still got just under 2 weeks to go and thaat I may well go over but I can't help waking up and thinking ooh ooh ooh is it today? anyone else feel the same?

I know exactly how you feel jstock, I was up till 3am last night convinced I was going into labour, was so excited. Eventually fell asleep and when I woke up all the braxton hicks and pains in my back and hips had stopped. Today I'm absolutely shattered and have spent all afternoon with my eyes closed on the sofa. I'm sick of feeling excited only to be disappointed by all the tricks our bodies are playing. I have had diahorrea since friday, going to the toilet at least 5 times a day. My backside feels like its on fire (sorry tmi) ha ha.

But I'm going to try and refuse to get excited anymore or listen to these signals. i'm just going to try and think I have 3 1/2 weeks left, not that I could go anytime as it will drive me mad. I havent even packed my hospital bag yet as I'm convinced I'll go overdue if I do.

oh bless you Sarah, it's a nightmare isn't it, every twinge (and bodily function!) is analysed. I want to keep busy but am knackered and swell up at the thought of moving.......on a cheerier note my ice pops have frozen!!
we'll get there in the end, god give me patience, but hurry it up.

Having said all that I have just been up hoovering all the bedrooms and polishing my flooring, dustings etc on the off chance I go into hospital in the next few days. I'm trying to keep on top of tasks by doing them every few days even though most of the jobs only need doing once a week at the most. on the off chance I do go into labour and then they dont need doing for at least a week after the birth (dont trust hubby to do them and last time I came out of hospital I cried because there was so much washing!!lol). When ds goes to bed no doubt I will get my breast pump out and express 1oz of milk as that usually gets the braxton hicks going.

I think I'm so desperate to go into labour soon as I should have been having a c-section yesterday and was told this from 12 weeks, but when I came to be booked in a few weeks ago all the c-sections were fully booked until the 19th so I have to wait till then, so I already feel overdue, and feel I've been on maternity too long with no baby! Plus now I have just found out that SIL and kids are coming down on the 15th so I want to have baby before then as I dont want visitors in hospital and she can get very opinonated if she doesnt get what she wants!
