Anyone had 'breakthrough bleeding' in the very early stages of pg?

I've just done two hpt and both came up +ve. This was a surprise because although we were ttc, I thought my af had started last Saturday. Although it was much lighter than usual, I just took it at face value that it was indeed, af. I have had spotting, not much, all week and at least once each day. Not enough to soak a mini-sized tampon but there nonetheless. I had a mmc in early October so I am a bit nervous in case something bad is happening. But could my spotting be breakthrough bleeding? Many thanks.

A week before my period was due i had light brown spotting for 3 days. Period didnt arrive and week later found out i was pregnant.
Implantation bleeding usually occurs upto a week before period is due and in the week its due and week after. Usually its lasts a few days but for some it can go on longer.

Hi Kudu,

I had exactly the same as you - about a week before my period was due, I started bleeding. It was lighter than a normal period but still 'there' nonetheless. It lasted about 5 days and just before my period should have started, it stopped. I did an HPT and got a strong positive.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant - good luck! Implantation bleeding is fairly comom. (I also lost the pregnancy before this one, so completely understand your nervousness. I was also terrified something was wrong!)

Many thanks for your replies...this spotting seems to stop and start, with hours in between where nothing happens. I have just had some red bleeding, not significant but 'there', so really not sure what is happening atm. I will wait a few more days and see what happens - not much else I can do!

Early bleeding is really common - I had it with my first pregnancy around 5/6 weeks I think - and I was amazed how totally unconcerned the doctor was - I guess they must see it the whole time. Keeping my fingers crossed for you

I bled a lot off and on throughout my pregnancies with my DSs. There was never a definitive reason given for it (explanations ranged from loss of a twin, cervical erosion, polyp to 'we have no idea') but both of them were fine in the end - just ended up having lots of scans, and getting to know the EPU and then the maternity unit really, really well.

Hope everything goes ok

Thanks for your replies...I've had no spotting today so I'm hopeful that this phantom af has now gone!

I also bleed again at 8 weeks and it totally freaked me out coz this time it was red ( spotting) Went and had an early scan and baby fine I had a examination and they said i had cervical erosion which is very common in pregnancy and can cause bleeding just randomly esp after intercourse. Its caused by the hormones making the blood vessels softer so bleed easily.

However if it does carry on go to ur local hospital and get checked just as a precaution and peice of mind.

I did, both times. Like a light period. Both children are fine. I hope this is the case for you.

If this carries on and you are Rh- you need to go for an injection, so tell your midwife.

I had light bleeding at about the time I was expecting my period to start. I was really upset as I had had IVF and was convinced it had not worked, this was our last chance. The infertility specialist ran the pregnancy test and it was positive. The children are 6 years old now.

I'm the same as coldtits. Both times for a few days like a light period. In fact I didn't think I could be pg because of it and only did a test once the nausea kicked in a week or so later! I now have 2 healthy sons. Fingers crossed for you

Thanks for additional replies....

coldtits, I'm RH+ so I guess I won't need an injection but thanks for advising.

Hi kudu, did you end up being pregnant? I'm going through the same thing with the daily spotting but no period. Thanks!

Hi Kudu - I could have written your OP. I actually came into the bedroom and said to my DH, 'well, not pregnant this month!' And three days later realised it hadn't really got started and decided to do a test. Am now 20+3! Have also had a bit of light spotting on and off until about 15/16 weeks.

I had early spotting, then light bleeding at around 6, and then 10 weeks. I was convinced I was losing the pregnancy at the time, very scary. Everything was fine though and DD is now three. Now 15+1 and no bleeding at all.

I had some spotting a couple of weeks ago - I'm on Cerazette, and in the 5 years I've been taking it, I've never bled/spotted.

Once the spotting finished after about 5 days, I took a test. But it was negative.....do you think I should take another test..?

I am having the same thing, I had a miscarriage in December and I starting trying again three months after that. and now this past month I started lightly spotting and bleeding for a week and a week before my period was due, I got a positive pregnancy test but Im scared because I had a miscarriage in December. Hoping and praying all is well just never had this experience before. I also have a 9 year old daughter.

I'm having light pink bleeding /spotting. It started earlier today. It hasn't filled up a full pad and it's fairly light. I think I might be about 5 -7 weeks pregnant. Is that normal in pregnancy ?????

Report
Ohyesiam · 15/06/2017 22:16

Yes , exactly this, and my dd is almost 13 not.
Best of luck op
