I'm in need of some advice, i've been getting heartburn really badly over nite for the past week or so, which in the end has made me throw up

Just want some advice on how to calm it down or get rid of it, gaviscon makes me sick, i'm going through antacids like nothing, just wondering if theres anything else i could try?

Baby due in 22 days so hopefully will be rid of it soon, but want a bit of sleep before the arrival

I suck on tums. It is calcium carbonate so the calcium ought to be good for me.

Do not eat at least 3 hrs before bed time. Try to stay seated during that time too.

Keep away from all teas, coffees, etc. I found even herbal teas do it - but not ginger and lemon tea which is a reliever for morning sickness.
( I have even given up the one cuppa a day I had in the am.)

Keep away from fatty, salty, spicy foods past mid afternoon.

Hope it helps Gem. I had acid reflux really bad but much improved from about 3 wks ago when it was doing my head in and I started to be strict about food/drink intake. See ya in the April thread!

I know this sounds completely daft, but my midwife recommended almonds with their brown skins on - just nibble a handful when you get heartburn. It really did help me, although I wasn't getting it so bad that I was throwing up - poor you

I'm eating more vegtables than that, really got into a gravy dinner!

i had heartburn from very early on and as soon as i had dd it disappeared. The only thing that helped me was glasses of milk.

Can't have milk, makes me ill!

I think the best thing would be labour right now!!!

I try not to eat after 7 pm. 6 if I can make it. Also, I am having no caffiene at the mo. Orange squash if very acidic. I also find that processed sugars bring it on. Even if its in the middle of the day. I expected to have bad heartburn as I have a lot w/out being pg anyway.

I'm really sorrt, but I can't help much... I had the same thing, mixed with a pregnancy milk allergy, and everything else to treat it was too chalky and made me sick too.

Bananas helped a teeny bit, but not much, and being sick did actually help for about half an hour!!!

Other than that, I'm with the others on giving birth fixing it!!! It is an amazing feeling - suddenly not having heartburn anymore, you don't notice to start with, and then suddenly realise (like when hiccups go ).

Bringing on labour... I had milk of magnesia (oodles of it), and lots of pineapple. I was very very overdue though, so it was probably due to start anyway....

Hi Gem, I've just been to an ante-natal class and they recommended drinking tonic water, apparently the quinine in it helps, must be worth a try anyway!

Hi Gem

I suffer from terrible heartburn as well, and can't stomach gaviscon.

Have you tried Zantac's? Small tablet you can buy over the counter, take one and it keeps the heartburn at bay for 12 hours. Pharmacist said they were safe to take while pg.

They are the only things that have worked for me. A bit expensive at 12 for £4 but well worth it if you're really suffering.

Hi i am willing to try anything to get rid of it, didn't sleep well at all again last nite, just wishing baby would make an early appearance!

Only 21 days to go!

Gem I am due in 14 days and have had really bad heartburn for the last month or so. To the point of throwing up infact. I have taken to sleeping on the sofa propped up with pillows.

This is the only thing that helps, try it for even one night and see. It really saved my sanity and that of my hubby too. I hope that you will give it a try, sleeping upright in bed was impossible for me.

I hope it all gets better for you and all the best with the remaining days. Sending you 'labour vibes'

I got about 4hrs sleep max, and couldn't sleep now even if i wanted to!

Just think the best way to be rid of it is to give birth, so any suggestions to get it going would be really helpful!

How r u this morning Lockets?
