leaking?

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and woke up feeling as tho i'm leaking all the time (sorry for TMI). I think i may have a UTI back again as i feel i need to go every 5 mins, not alot and getting pains down below, even more uncomfortable as baby very active today.

I'm drinking gallons of water a day, so not sure.
Any suggestions?

not don't think it's urine, but i keep getting pains down below, and feels like baby's ramming head against me which makes it worse.

but what do your waters look like? especially if it's leaking as this is my first baby!

If you go to your labour ward, they can check what is coming out of you and tell you if it is urine or amniotic fluid - they use a dipstick thing. I would have thought it was worth doing just to put your mind at rest.

I would go to the ward too Gem, if only to put your mind at rest. Or at least call them and speak to someone (mw).

Gem - I thought I was leaking the other week and ( at the advice of mumsnetters!) rang my midwife who advised me to go the the delivery ward. They were very thorough - did blood and urine tests and took a swab and also did a scan. It turned out to be nothing- just very watery discharge (sorry if tmi!) but put my mind at rest. I felt a bit bad for "wasting their time" (my words, not theirs) but they were lovely and said it's always worth getting these things checked out. One thing they did ask me was if I was needing to wear a pad (which I wasn't - and this made it less likely that it was waters leaking). If you are AT ALL concerned then I would go in, if only to stop yourself worrying. Also, it was a bonus to get a scan at this late stage (I was also 36 weeks) and see that babe was fine and in the right position etc.

It doesn't matter if it is nothing Gem. I was in the hospital the day before my waters broke with ds1 being monitored because I didn't think the baby was moving. I lay there for 30 mins during which time he kicked for England! No-one minded, they are used to putting people's minds at rest.

But imagine if there was something wrong and you didn't go and get it checked? Whatever it is, I would say something is amiss as it is not normal to leak (well not until you have had a few babies and have lost your pelvic floor muscles!) Go on, go and put your mind at rest.

HI

i'm back, well not alot of leakage that they can see i have to keep an eye on it. Had a speculam done and had to have the senior consultant come in as had 3 midwifes who thought my cervix is really inflammed but he said it wasn't. also send of swabs and urine sample so have to wait for them to come back in the week. they don't think my waters have gone as cervix closed but soft. trace done was perfect, but have been told to go in if leakage becomes alot more if have any contractions or blood. But will see my gp on wednesday for ante natal checkup.

Glad to hear it went well and no crisis. Do keep a check on yourself and contact them again if you are worried. I hope they reassured you that you weren't wasting their time or panicking unreasonably.

No the midwife Jo said and wrote in my notes if any contractions/blood/gushes or extra leakage then to go straight back in as thats what she there for. But the male consultant sounded as if i was wasting his time.

Not too much noise from the mothers I hope? I dreaded going round the labour ward when I was pg with No1 in case I heard wild screaming!

Sorry to crash your thread Gem, but I have always been very curious about how one does tell if there is leaking?? Did they give you any more tips? When they said you'd need a pad do they mean a panty liner or a real pad? Sorry for the graphic nature, but I been recently diagnosed with excess fluid and dr told me to run in if I have a leakage.... But I already need a liner most days....

Hope your pains turn out to be nothing and you have your baby in your hands soon!

Lonelymum, 1 lady screaming the other pushing and panting in the next room!!!

Lua have to wear a proper pad and if really soaked then have to go straight back in, also if have blood with it.
Pains r just baby moving further down the pelvis.
