Neverending Headache at 12wks - help!

For the last 5 days or so, I've had a headache. It's like a pressure headache across my forehead, eyes and temples. It is not a splitting, migraine type of a headache, just a constant, wearing one. It only seems to be gone for the first 30-60mins that I'm awake; then it's back until bedtime.

I'm not big on taking tablets so don't really want to go the paracetamol route (tablet phobia rather than drug averse) so wonder if anyone else has had this and if they found any solutions? Sadly lying flat in a dark room is not an option.
It started at 12wks and seems to be overtaking the sickness for most debilitating symptom!

Thanks for any thoughts...
Flirty x

Hmm, apparently headaches are a normal pregnancy problem, look here. The fact it starts after you're up might mean it's a muscle thing? Anyway, plenty of ideas on that link.

I really suffered with headaches last time - exactly as the MS stopped they started. I literally had a non stop headache for around six weeks. This time round so far nothing yet at 14 weeks....

Tips for coping - drink loads and loads of water, if you can afford it have a massage once a week (it was really the only thing that stopped it for a day or so), tiger balm on the temples, cooling strips from the pharmacy. I used to take paracetamol but to be honest they did nothing really. I was in a really stressful job at the time and I'm sure that's what started them off so relaxing as much as possible is a winner.

Hope that helps.

I had the same thing. Everyone kept telling me to drink lots of water which was annoying as I was drinking as much as I could!
That 4head stuff worked quite well. You don't need much at all, just a dab on the temples.
My headaches went by the 2nd trimeseter and then it was a breeze until the 3rd so I hope it's the same for you.

I had them really badly and my GP was pretty useless. Said to take paracetamol, but they tend not to work with me.

They said it was probably hormones but could have been stress or dehydration.

Get plenty of rest(if possible) and keep your fluids up.

I really hope they go soon as I know how painful they are.

I really had never had headaches until I got pregnant and then I had them bad alternating between light headache to migraine. I never sought help which was stupid on hindsight, everyone kept saying it would 'go away'. It did about five minutes after dd born. When people asked me how I felt after the birth, I said I hadn't felt so good in 9 months!!!

I am the only person I know to experience this, but if it continues beyond 3 months I would suggest you seek some help.

I found one thing that would relieve it for about 30minutes and that was smoothies make from fresh fruit. I used to make them up at home.

I am just pregnant again, and the headache is back so I am a bit glum. It's hard not to snap at people when you have a splintering headache.

Good luck with it all.

Hello Flirty
I had headaches during my early pg but they vanished when my ms faded. BTW I was advised not to use anything other an paracetemol. When I asked a pharmacist about the 4Head stuff they told me it had't been tested on pregnant women and to avoid it. Water helped me and a cold flannel on my forehead at night x

I think it's to do with your hormone levels changing as the placenta takes over.

I had exactly the same at 12 weeks in my pregnancy - but have also had the same grim headaches with each of my two miscarriages, a week or so after as the hormones are going.

Mine went after four or five days, hope yours do too.
