what happened on my final report of CVS

Because of high risk of DS, I did CVS on Sep.10 , on the end of 11/Sep. I got a call from hospital said preliminary result was normal, also told me most probably I will get the final report on 22/Sep. I called them on 23/Sep, they said the result is coming. yesterday they told me they are still verifying. And now it is the end of the today I still have not got any thing. I am really worrying what is wrong? Is there any one got bad final report with normal preliminary result for CVS, why takes so long time for them to verify , and what exactly they are verifying?
Thanks a lot

The preliminary result uses a genetic test to check for certain conditions- definitely DS and I think some others (trisomy 13 and 18?). These will pick up most cases.

The final report looks at the karyotype. That is it actually looks at the chromosomes present in the cells. It takes time because the cells need to be cultured. They probably need to be verified by 2 people because it's not always that easy to do. You're looking visually for problems in chromosomes. So one person will score, and presumably another person will check. It may be delayed because of staff shortages. Occasionally the cultured cells don't grow that well, but I would have thought they would have been able to tell you that if that was the case.

I do know someone who had a clear preliminary report and then an XY/XO mosaic in the final. She had further scans where the baby appeared to be developing normally so they thought it was possible the XO cells were in the placenta in which case they wouldn't cause a problem. If they were in the baby he may have been sub-fertile but they said they would have to wait until birth.

hi jimjamshaslefttheyurt
Thanks a lot for your clarifying. In the preliminary result they said 21, 13, 18 are checked plus X .
my baby's NT is not high 1.7mm in week 11+3, but my blood test is very bad plus my age (38 ) and previous trisomy 18 pg experience put me to 1/4 risk for DS and 1/16 for trisomy 18 .
I read in the internet said XY/XO usually has high NT , looks like it is not my case , really wish this one is healthy baby

I'm sure you are going through hell, but in terms of medical stuff if there IS something wrong they generally get hold of you quicker. It's when there isn't anything wrong you have to chase results.
