i know of a baby who was 5 months old before they detected a cardiac condition.

I know of a twin who was born with a hip condition - only recently diagnosed and he is almost 4.

In fact in the hospital when dd1 was having her cardiac surgery a few babies/children ahd been born without cardiac conditions being present.

My dd2 and 3 have a 1 in 50 chance of having what their father has ( he was only diagnosed with congenital cardiac condition in his 40's!!) Whilst they were both checked out in utero - unfortunately it is not able to totally ruled out or in until they are around 3 or 4 - when an echo gives a better view of the heart. Dd2 has had her scan but dd3 is not old enough yet.

sorry that should read - without cardiac conditions being detected prior to birth.

There are a number of conditions which cannot be detected in utero.

oops, completely forgot me!, not an illness as such but i have a small heart defect that wasn't finally diagnosed until i was a teenager, despite spending quite a lot of time at the doctors/hospital prior to that under investigation.

My cousain was born with undetected cardiac issues, arrested at 2 day old. Local hospital wasnt doingb heart stuff (Bristol) much and refused to operate, another hospital did and bought him time but he died on the heart transplant waiting list around his 6th birthday after contracting MRSA

I am so sorry Kat . There are so many things that can be easily missed, and an awful lot that cat ever be picked up, that scans do give a slightly false sense of security I think

Hi Kat - I'm sorry about your little girl. My dd has a serious heart problem which was not picked up until she had a heart attack and went into multiple organ failure. She's almost 15 now but if I was pg with her today it would still not be picked up on scan.

I'm sorry that your dd's condition wasn't detected. Is it one that would normally be picked up?

its a genetic disorder that should have been picked up through blood results
