I know rasperry tea is supposed to make the labour shorter but not start it off, castor oil is a fable, sex is supposed to not work (please? ) so any tips?

Speaking as someone who was a month overdue and tried everything... if they ain't ready, they ain't ready.

Yes, sex does work. Semen has prostaglandin in which is similar to the stuff they give you when you are induced.

So, if you can bear the thought of it...

Sadly everything else is an old wives tale.

Sex does sod all if it ain't ready.

Viagra is meant to work - it acts like induction but stimulates the right hormones so it is more natural than proper induction (or so new scientist said)

I have read that semen is more effective if taken orally. How desperate are you?

Yes, but even indiction won't work if you aren't ready - the eariler you are the more likely it is to fail.

But if you are almost there, well its worth a go, no?

Swallowing is crap - think logically, how the hell is semen in your stomach going to affect your cervix?

I don't understand how that swallowing thing works either.

Soooooo obviously thought up by a man fed up of not getting any from his pregnant wife!

Oh. I wished I had asked about this about 21 weeks ago when I was overdue with ds. I was desperate enough to try anything!

I'm trying to remember who wrote it. Some man probably.

Hate to say this, but imo, they just come when they're ready!
However.............I lent a zita west book to a friend the other day, who was thinking the same as you, and there is a page on how to induce labour (wording a little more politically correct though) and they had a picture of someone with tens pads stuck to their ankles??? Didn't read it, but it looked interesting.
Other than that:
pineapple
champagne
curry
shag
diy sweep ??
clary sage oil in bath or burner
acupuncture

Trampolining?

Report
LongJohnSqualor · 19/09/2008 20:38

Nowt works.
Baby comes when baby is ready.
I did everything, sex, blow jobs, hill walking and falling on my arse twice, sledding on a massive snowy hill, pineapple, curry, castor oil, that other oil that you rub into your belly, walking along curbs, jumping up and down stairs, going sideways on the stairs and two attempted sweeps.

I also took raspberry leaf, evening primrose and black cohosh from about 38weeks.

The midwife said I had a wonderfully ripe cervix but it was closed shut.

I had an ELCS at 41weeks.

Oh, yeah, I did the acupressure spots too, and trampolining and mowed the lawn. Everything anyone suggested, I tried.

as it has been said before, they come when they are ready. BUT....I am convinced that swimming brought mine on. He was 10 days overdue and on the advice of a friend (who's baby came the day after she swam) I went swimming and he came the following day. I had swum all through my pregnancy but not for 4 weeks until that day.

Try it, can only make you feel better.
