does anybody manage to get their 5-a-day during the first trimester?

Am 10wks pg and have felt constantly sick since about 5wks. Luckily not been sick just nauseous all day long. So I eat whatever is the least offensive thing to me at the time, which hardly ever involves anything fresh or healthy. Some days I'm lucky if I manage to get 2 portions of fruit and veg. Just wondering if I'm in the minority with this?

nope - you're not alone. i've been living on toast and marmite, ginger nuts and salt and vinegar crips to stave off the nausea (i'm usually super healthy and eat fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and oodles of veg for tea, but haven't been able to stomach it). i'm 7+6 and have felt really nauseous since about 6 weeks (and puked up the lovely roast dinner with healthy veg my dh cooked for me last monday night). i wouldn't worry about it - everyone says this won't last forever (it's my first pg so hoping they're telling the truth!) and that you just need to get through the first few weeks as best you can. if you're not puking then at least you'll be getting some goodness from the food you eat...

Well, I hope you feel better soon, but glad I'm not alone! - this is my 2nd pg, and altho' i had constant nausea last time, I did manage to eat a bit better. I'll just enjoy the toast only diet for a while longer then

Please don't worry. I couldn't face vegetables or fruit for the first 4 months at least.

Just try to relax and eat whatever you can stomach!

I was exactly the same in my first trimester. Retched at the thought of salad or any of my favourite healthy meals.
Instead, I craved mars ice cream, kentucky fried chicken and tomato soup ... indulged all my cravings apart from KFC.

btw - congratulations on the pregnancy.

Hahahahaha! I was lucky to get anything down me in the first trimester that wasn't solid carbohydrate. I ate healthily before I was pregnant and took my vitamins and I've had one healthy DD (and one on the way).
Please don't worry.

Yes, I managed 5 a day ...that's 5 pukes a day

I don't think I ate any fruit or veg at all between 6-12 weeks. Don't sweat it. Once I stopped feeling so gross (about 16 weeks) I started making up for it.

God know. I always assumed that my body would crave fruit and veg when I was pregnant, but instead I craved junk food and sweets

I'm off chocolate, can eat fruit but off salad and vegetables (unless you count baked beans!)

Yea, I was always like 'I'll not let anything with an E number pass my lips when I'm preganant. It'll be masses of salad, organic veg...'.

Have felt crap since week 6

  • bring on the cheese, digestives and ben and jerrys.

Not here!

I have felt sick since week 6 and although I have been trying my best to eat some fruit to help ease the constipation...sorry TMI...I am having nowhere near 5 portions a day.

2 is probably the closest I get!

To be honest, don't really care at the moment, just want not to feel sick....uurghhhhh

Before I got pregnant ate loads of veg, fruit, drank my 2 litres of water, went to gym five times or more a week etc etc. Even at 24 weeks am finding I'm still off a lot of food, even chocolate! I did eat a lot of Smash and Ready Brek though, and have started to manage the gym again (although am now feel a wee bit uncomfortable) I think those are kind of healthy-ish.
Congratulations BTW

I wouldn't worry about it. My friend who had hyperemisis was convinced that her bump didn't have a bump in it, is was just custard cos that's all she could eat. I've been really sick with all three and it has varied what I've craved - first one was oranges, second one was ready salted hula hoops and chocolate, OMG I mainlined chocolate with her! And this one it seems to be apples. But I find that I can eat practically anything as long as I'm eating cos it keeps the sickness at bay. The good thing tho is this time round I didn't go off my cups of tea like I did before, although I'm still not having as many as normal. Hope it passes soon. Mine is still hanging around at 16wks and it SUCKS!

I worried about this a lot too. Both pregnancies very nauseous throughout, in the early weeks all I could eat was toast, crackers, cheese, the occasional apple. I was maybe having 5 portions of fruit a week, nowhere near 5 a day. Until way beyond 16 weeks, probably closer to 20 weeks.

DD was 9lb 2 oz at birth
DS was 8lb 15 oz

... so they were both fine .

Don't worry. Eat whatever you can. Good luck!
