In the hope i dont get thrown off mumsnet for asking a question about something most people hate.... their weight!!! I was just wondering what people put on during pregnancy. ( for their first ideally but any info is good)
I keep hearing so many different stories. from try and keep as healthy as poss so u dont have to worry about losing the weight after- to eat what you want when you want your allowed to your pregnant! ahh so confusing for a first timer.

i go against most rules. i only gain about 5lb in total during pregnancy, and my dd's weighed in at 6lb 15oz, and 9lb. but i suffer really bad morning sickness.am currently expecting #3, have gained about 5lb, am being induced and estimate on bubs weight is around 7lb.

just proves that morning sickness doesnt affect babies weight gain really.

Hi Amyjo

This is my first pregnancy as well, as you can probably tell from my other post

Before i fell PG i weighed in at 8.5 stone now i weigh 10 stone 12, i cryed when i had to wear a size 14 trouser/jean.
Don't know where it's gone tho, but unfortunalty my craving is chocolate and never touched the stuff b4!

Do you think your putting on alot of weight then?

Personally I put on 1 and a half stone with my first pregnancy and I've put on 2 stone so far with my second (I have 1 more week to go).

I think I found it easier to eat properly and healthily with my first pregnancy as I only had myself to think about and I planned better for the energy lulls etc whereas this time, running around after DS (3 and a half) I haven't had as much time or energy to be more organsied and I have found that come 3/4pm I'm reaching for a sugar fix. Also, with this second pregnancy I've gone completely off vegetables which I normally love and so that hasn't helped my diet.

A little of what you fancy does you good but beware, you'll not have as much time after the birth for exercise so I personally would try and keep the weight gain sensible.

I put on about 3 stone during my first pg. I was very swollen by the end - couldn't wear shoes or rings etc. Weeks after the birth I still had over a stone to lose, but didn't manage to before I got pg again. After ds2 was born (18 months after ds1) I found I had gone bcak to my weight pre first pg. Subsequent pgs I wasn't weighed and don't know how much I gained but I have now had 4 babies and weigh less than I have ever done (since childhood) So, the moral is, have loads of children, run around after them every day for nine years and you will never have to worry about your weight!

I lost a stone and a half, DS weighed 6.13 and I have stayed within 4lb of it for the last 4 years.

Mind you I do go to the gym 3 days a week. But it is the only time my weight has been truly stable God bless DS.

I didn't gain anything in any of my pregnancies. I lost a bit at the beginning with MS/lack of appetite and then just put on that much and did a bit of redistribution.

I put on weight afterwards - inhaled food in the first couple of months.

1 stone 2lb. Lost all of it whilst breastfeeding, and have put on 1 and a half stones since
My weight dropped in the first 3 months due to all - day morning sickness. Heartburn at the end of my pregnancy meant that I hardly ate anything. I was swigging gaviscon from the bottle even in labour. Was amazed that it disappeared as soon as bub was born!

My first, and only, pregnancy I put on 11kgs (sorry, not a clue what this is in lbs). I ate like a total pig in the last month especially cakes and chocolates, it was fab. I've always been a chocoholic anyway so I just indulged. Was back into my size 10 jeans within 2 weeks but have only last week (see MN posting) reached my prebirth weight and DS is almost 5!! Oh, I didn't breast feed, or rather couldn't breast feed due to totally abnormal problems immediatly following the birth and milk never really flowing as a result. Personally I would say listen to all the stories and realise that everyone is different, there is no norm. I had a friend who put on 26kgs but you would never have guessed if afterwards!

Started at 10stone, ended up at 14 1/2 However, DS1 was over 10lb and I lost over 2 stone in less than a week. I suspect I was holding onto a lot of fluid

LOTS 1st pregnancy, 2nd pregnancy I put on 2.5 stone. Still haven't lost it, despite half heartedly trying!

Report
PiccadillyCircus · 18/02/2005 19:33

I put on 4.5 stone in my first pregnancy. And I also lost 0.5 stone at the beginning of it, so 5 stone from lowest to highest.

DS is 14 months and I am currently about 0.75 stone under my pre-pregnancy weight with him. Although this will not last as I am 9 weeks pregnant at the moment .

DS only weighed 6lb 1oz. I have no idea what all the weight was (although some of it may have been chocolate of course...)

I put on about 2 1/2 stone and lost most of it within a couple of weeks (I THINK due to bf) Dd is 13 months and I'm now less than I was before pg (but did lose quite a bit during 1st few months) Just try to eat as healthily as you can and don't deny yourself those indulgencies now and again! Good luck

I gained 2 stone exactually with ds1 & he weighed 8lb 5oz at birth.
With ds2 I put on just under 2 stone, but he was a week early (ds1 was born on his due date), ds2 weighed 7lb 7oz.

I put on about 2stone with my pregnancy. Was all bump as everyone kept telling me,mind you my ds was 5 weeks early. Was in to my jeans after two weeks and at 15 weeks weigh less than I did at star of pregnancy. Not finding much time to eat has helped greatly .I was very nauseated for 20 wks of pregnancy and ate what I thought would stay down.Just go with the flow .Although 5 wks early my baby was a good weight considering!!!

i lost 1/2 stone to begin with(probably due to no wine ) then put on 2 1/2 stone so ended up 2 stone heavier than pre-pregnancy.

lost loads of weight after, about 4 stone (also probably due to lack of wine ) but am now(4 years on) a bit less than my pre pregnancy weight.
