Scared and confused about bacterial vaginosis diagnosis

I'm 14 weeks pg and have been having strange pale green discharge for the past week or so, so I went to see the doctor last week.

She took a swab for various infections, and the results came back today saying that I have bacterial vaginosis.

I've got a prescription of antibiotics to pick up tomorrow, but that's all i know really.

I've had 2 miscarraiges before and have found this pg very, very stressful. I have only recently started to believe that this one will be OK and now it feels like I'm at real risk again .

It seems from my internet research that BV significantly increases the risk of m/c.

Has anyone had any experience of BV in pregnancy? Does it usually mean something bad?

i think its in v early pg...you are past that point now of very early pg. (i havent it whilst pg)

The antibiotics will kick in soon, and it will be gone. Try and relax - if they were very worried they would have had you in

I'm not sure what antibiotics they are....she did tell me that they were the sort you can't drink alcohol with!

Thanks, Scorpio, I know I should try to relax...the doctor seemed very relaxed about it, emphasised it was just precautionary etc. But I just feel vulnerable because of the two m/cs I've had before. Will feel much better once I am taking the antibiotics.

I had it when I was preganant with dd, and I had miscarried my previous pregnancy too. All was well though

Of course you will feel very vulnerable. Look after yourself...also just incase you don't know, don't wash down there with soap, or bubble bath, or wear thongs or tight trousers - will help to minimise risk. Apologies if you know this

Thanks for the info Scorpio...I knew about the soap and bubble bath, but not about thongs or tight trousers! Luckily the last two don't really apply .

Thanks FallenMadonna, is v. reassuring to hear your pregnancy turned out well. Did you carry your DD to term? (Just thinking about the risks of premature birth with BV).

And then some! She was 10 days overdue

Oh right! Definitely no issues with premature birth for you then

Your experience is very reassuring
