Things have changed a bit since I had my last dd (she's only 2). You used to get a booking in appointment as soon as you wanted and then the scan would be at 12 weeks.

Now they dont want to see me until i'm 9/10 weeks (am 8 weeks at the minute, haven't heard from them yet).

So I was just wandering, those of you who had booking in appoinments around this time did it make your first scan later then 12 weeks.

I'm so desperate to get the scan out of the way coz I had a m/c earlier in the year and wont be able to enjoy this pg untill I know things are ok.

Thanx

Here (winchester) we book in with midwife at 10 weeks, then nuchal fold scan at 12 weeks.

Differs in different areas, plus they aren't as bothered about seeing you so soon in 2nd and subsequent pregnancies!

1st baby - booking in at 8 weeks, first scan at 12 weeks

2nd baby - booking in at 10 weeks, first scan at 13 weeks

Most nuchal scans are done between 11-13 weeks, but they aren't available in all areas of the country. Some people only get offered one at 16-20 weeks, some get both. Worth giving your Gp a ring to find out - they'll know.

Oh ok, I thought it might be a bit short notice to get the scan in for 12 weeks if not seen till 10. But obviously not, that makes me feel a bit better. Thank you

I had my booking in appointment at 18 weeks and first scan at 16 weeks! Useless. But don't worry, I think most people book in at 10 and scan at 12. Is your current GP aware of your previous M/C? I would have thought you had a case for a referral to the EPU for an early scan. I think some EPUs you can self refer to, depending on your area?

This'll be my forth, so I know I will be offered a 12 week ish scan. Down her it used to be 12 weeks and now it's 12 - 14. It doesn't sound a big difference but i'm slowly going out of my mind hoping this baby will be ok and the sooner I have the scan to confirm that the better.

I had a missed m/c previously so didn't find out till 12 weeks tho the baby had died at 7 .

Last time round (2 yrs ago) I had booking at about 12 weeks, then no scan until 20 weeks.

This time round they now offer 12 weeks scans so booking appt was at 10 weeks, MW booked the scan over the phone for me then. It was at 13 wks IIRC, but that was because I was on holiday in week 12.

I'd been warned by a friend that you hardly see the MW in second & subsequent pgs - last saw mine at 16 wks and won't see her again until 28 wks.

Sorry to hear you've had m/c, can understand why that would make you more anxious. Hope things go well for you

whatawally - if you have had a missed m/c you should be able to have an early scan, earlier than the nuchal one. have you spoken to anyone about this? It might help put your mind at rest. i was told they didn't give routine early scans at my local hospital for people who had suffered a previous m/c, but I pushed for it and had a sympathetic GP who referred me. Worth a try?

Both around 13 weeks. With DC1 scan was a couple of days before booking appointment, with DC2 booking appointment was a couple of days before scan.

No I haven't contacted my doc to see if they will give me an early scan.

I thought they wouldn't entertain it unless you had symptoms of a m/c. For me the hard thing is that the baby had died weeks before I eventually started bleeding. So up until that point I thought everything was ok.

Do you think it's worth checking with the doctor then?

EPU site lists the early preg units
At my nearest you can just show up and get a scan if you are worried or bleeding
You don't need a doc referral

Here you get a scan at 10-11 weeks and then a booking in appointment a few weeks after that.

I got my booking appointment and scan on the same day at 12 weeks. But I was able to have an early scan at 6 weeks as I had a complicated medical history and had been about to go into fertility treatment. No m/c history but even so they offered me the extra scan, so I would push for this. Good luck.

Mine (2nd pregnancy, gap of less than 2 years) was at what we thought to be 11 weeks, scan 2 days later showed I was just over 9 weeks at the time. My next MW appointment is at what would have been 26 or so weeks on original dates, will be about 24 by my dating scans (I had a 2nd because of wanting tests which are best done at 12 weeks). I have seen a consultant since then and will have a 2nd scan at 21 weeks.

Oh, and the hospital sent me a separate appt for the scan, which was 2 days after MW appt but they didn't wait for that to book it.
