Hi all Is there anyone out there who has experienced this!! went for internal u/s yesterday after bleeding brown blood a few days earlier! I am 6 weeks pregnant and a sac and yolk was detected although very small! on top of that was a blood sack (clot) which was much larger than the sac! I was told it could go either way and to go back for a scan next week and if I bleed heavily to go in straight away has any one experienced anything like this and had a healthy baby at the end ??
thank you

Was it a sub-chorionic hemorrhage? If it was I had one. Mine was detected during a dating scan at 7 weeks and was gone by the 12th week, when I had another scan. I never saw any blood at all and it is possible to either have no bleeding or quite heavy bleeds.

I was told to stay away from sex, heavy lifting, and get off your feet as much as possible. Pretty much baby your baby's house. They usually clear up on their own if you take it easy.

If you do bleed don't worry too much as it is common for the bleed to have nothing to do with the baby. Just go in and they will check you out. Also are you RH-? If you do have a bleed you need to go in ASAP for a shot.

I did get a healthy baby out of it, and now he's a 15 month old terror. After it cleared up I had no other issues in my pregnancy. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much MKG I thought I was the only one this has happened too there's not much info on the internet about it !the consultant didnt use those words he just called it a blood sack or clot He didnt even tell me to take it easy or anything he just said that if it bursts there a chance it will take the baby with it! and to go back next week or before if I bled heavily, the midwife checked my blood type too.
You've really put my mind at rest i'll just go and tell my husband about the no sex part sure he'll love that !!!
thanks again x

Well some doctor's don't say to change anything, but I was told to take it easy, figure better to be safe than sorry.

If you look under subchorionic hemorrhage or hematoma you'll find more info.

Just know that this is fairly common, there is nothing you could have done to prevent it (apparently they think it comes from problems during implantation), and the risk of miscarriage is between 1-3%, so there is a 97-99% chance everything will be fine. It just depends on the size and placement of the bleed. It will either bleed out or your body will absorb it (like mine did).

That is basically the highlighted version of what you will find online, so it really isn't too bad.

Keep us updated on what happens. And I hope your dh take the news well.

I had an early scan at 7 weeks to check for cysts, i had been bleeding a bit for a few days so was really surprised and happy to see a healthy sac and yolk and heartbeat. I also had a sac of blood at the bottom of my womb and was told to take it careful for a few days. I had been horseriding a week before doing some jumping so obviously had to give that up.
Anyway am now 36 weeks pregnant, i have had no further bleeding and baby is growing well and moving all the time and i cant wait for next month. Good luck and try not to panic.

Well, this thread is saving me from worry, I am in hospital after some brown bleeding and am less than 6 weeks pregnant so no yolk or heartbeat yet, hoping for a good blood test tomorrow and scan in 10 days. Good luck to you

I have had this too!! I had red bleeding at 10 weeks and went for a scan, they saw a clot which was small (just under 1cm) it was just inside the internal OS i think that means just next to the cervix opening?? They didnt say i had to take it easy or anything, that it should just clear up on its own. I had red/brown spotting for the next 3 weeks and the last time some little clots too and that was it. Had 15 week scan yesterday and she said there is no evidence of subchorionic bleed. I hope yours clears up too, its very worrying i know. Take it easy i wish you all the very best.

hi, i had a clot at 14wks, was bleeding that bad i was taken in by ambulance, collapsed with the shock, in hos i was diagnosed with a subchorionic bleed. This continued right through till about 25 wks, although the bleeding had changed to brown (which they refer to as old blood)i was that anxious i had myself convinced i would lose the baby, how could you bleed that much and still carry your baby? well i did, i had a healthy baby girl, 2 days overdue. stay positive, your body has ways of dealing with this, hopefully it will either bleed out or your body will reabsorb it! good luck x

I was referred for a vagina ultrasound at 7 weeks after 2 weeks of brown bleeding. No heart beat was visible so I had to go back again last Friday and they said that the fetus hadn't grown at all (they would have expected it to double in size) there was still no heart beat and they could see a hematoma in the uterus. I have to go back again on friday for a final scan but I was told that there is 95% chance that it is not going to work out. Since Friday all my morning sickness and breast tenderness has gone although all teh bleeding has stopped so i guess i have to resign myself to the fact that it is all over. It is so unfair, we have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years and i feel so helpless

My friend went thru this in June. Her clot was 4 times the size of the sac.
She went for various scans (basically every time she bled) and all was well, heartbeat detected.
She was told the clot would either reabsorb, or come away, bringing the baby with it.
She was booked for a follow up scan a week later but the baby had been reabsorbed and the clot was still there.
She didn't rest up as we suggested and continued doing lots of things myself and others thought she shouldn't really.

We also found we couldn't find much about it anywhere and the Docs here didn't seem to know a lot.

Don't mean to 'p!ss on the bonfire' or anything but a Doc at the hosp. kept saying to her 'it will be fine' but there was no way to tell if it would or not.

Sadly the poor girl is badly depressed now and has a 'D'H who tells her she is 'making herself feel this way' and to pull herself together .

I had one picked on a scan last weds, but when I went for a private scan on sunday.she couldnt see any evidence of it..so Im hoping it just reabsorbed..I was told they are quite common ultrasound findings in early pregnancy

I had my first scan at 12 weeks everything was good the baby jumping around was so happy. Then that same evening I started to get some brown discharge, woke up at 2am to find a lot of blood I went into a blind panic. Rushed to the hospital had a 3 hour wait in the cold waiting room thinking I was loosing the baby. Eventually got a bed but Wasn't seen by a doc until 8am!!!! Had an internal scan that showed the clot. was so emotional to see the baby was ok. What a rolla coaster. xx

I have had it twice. First resulted in healthy baby and I'm now 29 weeks with second. The advice I got was to rest as much as possible. Don't be scared if you get a big bleed I had a few. Good luck
