Boy or girl - how accurate was your scan?

Hi - I've just had my 21 week scan on baby no.3, and it's a boy (apparently), I've got 2 dd's, so this is a little surprising to me - what are the chances they got it wrong?
Who was told right and who was told wrong, and did it affect the way you bonded with your baby?
Sorry - was really expecting to have 3 daughters, and am completely thrown by the prospect of a boy! Just delighted all is healthy.

They were right with both of my two (both boys) I have my 20 week scan tomorrow, so only another 20 odd weeks to go to find out if they will have got it right this time.

Congrats BTW

The chances are very high that it's correct - scans at 20+ weeks are usually reliable.

The only person I know who was told wrong was someone who had a scan at just 12, when they said she was having a boy, but she had a girl.

Congratulations!

Right x 3.

I think they are usually more reluctant to say 100% if it's a girl, but I think if they say it's a boy you can be pretty confident it's a boy!

I think it is pretty unlikely to be a girl if they've said it was a boy.

Right both previous times with mine, about to find out if right with dc3 but would be very surprised if not as dh saw the willy at 13 weeks let alone at 21!

Boy at 12 weeks, 17 weeks, 22 weeks and 34 so I am pretty confident!

my next door neighbour was told she was having a boy only to be delighted with a baby girl, hence the reason I'm a little cautious!

Right with both of mine. I think 20 week scans are somewhere between 95% and 99% accurate.

Right with ds1 & ds2 and I have been told this bay is also a boy and I have seen the "goods" for myself on 2 seperate scans. I will still get them to check again in 2 weeks for a growth scan.

My midwife told me last week that there's just been a baby born in our area that was wrongly sexed at the scan - but it's the first she's seen, so as a proportion of all the babies she's ever tended to I guess the risk is very low

My SiL is a midwife and reckons in all her years on the job (many) she has only ever seen one woman have a child of a different gender than she was told at the scan.
