Hopefully you'll be fully better after week 13. Bed was the only thing that helped for me too. Only 20 more days (ish). Hang in there.

I know, it sucks, but if it's any consolation, it is meant to peak between 8-11 weeks, so it shouldn't get any worse than what you are experiencing now. I'm nearly 12 weeks and I've gone from throwing up 4 times a day to just feeling sick and trying to keep it down in the evening. Good luck - cry as much as you want. You have a right to feel very sorry for yourself!!

No help here i'm afraid just sympathy! Bed is the only answer for me too but I cant get enough with a 16 mth old . I'm now over 12 weeks but seem to be getting worse. I drink Ginger cordial by the gallon as it is the only thing I have found which eases the nausea and on the day's I work have been arranging appts so that I can come home and have a nap . Cant seem to shake the 'awfulness in myself' either no matter how much I sleep. Apart from advising you to sleep and rest when you can I just hope it passes for you soon. On a positive note it is a good sign of strong hormones which usually means everything is ok. x

Are you actually BEING sick babyalfie? If so you may be dehydrated which makes you feel even more hideous.

Have you looked at this webite?

www.hyperemesis.org

I suffered severe hyperemesis in both pregnancies - i know how awful physically and mentally it can be. Have a look at the website and see if your symptoms match. You may need help from your GP.

yes I am being sick but also can keep some things down. I am going away on holiday at the weekend for 2 weeks and just do not know how I will cope.. i feel like just running away as as one of you said I can cope with the sick but it is the 'awfullness' feeling that makes me feel sick, tired dizzy etc.. its so horrible and just hope I could feel better and hope it will be worth everything in a week. I see my midwife in 2 weeks for booking in and want a cvs due to family history of problems I alsways have this done and also I am an older mummy too lol.

Oh dear glad not alone and glad some people can sympothise with me as I appreciate that. Some people think I am just making it which honestly I am not I truly feel terrible.

Thanks for all replies.

I had severe hyperemesis, but it lasted ages! My doctor said that oten the worse the sickness is, the longer it lasts. I know you feel rough, but at least you're keeping some stuff down. Even water made me sick, and I had to go to hospital! Also got sick if I tried to sit up even. I was off work for three months in the end. I also felt guilty, thinking people were judging me, so don't worry I know what you mean. I felt I was being compared to heavily pg colleagues who were working just fine
It did pass eventually, and am now 38 weeks and dying of heartburn

i feel your pain. it is truly awful especially because you don't look pregnant and often can't tell people what's really going on. i was out for the entire first trimester during both pregnancies and can say that by magic, once my second trimester started i felt better. it will go away.

in the meantime, go see your GP and see what they can do for you. if you need it, they can prescribe antisickness meds which helped me. basically for the next few weeks you just have to survive - do whatever, eat whatever makes you feel better even if it is for just a few minutes. hang in there.

Babyalfie

I really can empathise with you. It's awful and feels never ending. I'm 8 weeks and have been really suffering with sickness since week 5 and now I just feel like I have the worst case of flu - dizzy, sick, exhaustered day and night .

Take each day at a time and try not to think in weeks and do what ever you need to do to get some relief at that moment - sleep, eat, sleep eat that cycle seems to be helping me cope some what. You will feel better eventually.

I've been posting on 'Tips for nausea' thread as there's a few of us who really seem to be in the same boat with this and are all in the 1st trimester. It's so reassureing talking on mumsnet and helps me to feel supported and not alone with this.

Hi Babyalfie - I know exactly how you feel! You feel like you might never feel "well" again!

But I promise you will. I felt so terrible -sick, faint, miserable, unattractive - sick if I ate, sick if I didn't eat. At work I just wanted to put my head on my desk and cry.

I started feeling better in the 11th week but it was quite gradual. Then in the 12th week I thought to myself that there are times in the day when I actually feel like I used to. Now (15th week) I feel pretty good in the day and only sick after dinner.

My advice would be to really indulge yourself ? just be good to yourself while you feel bad and recognise it will pass (hopefully within a month). In the meantime, treat yourself as much as possible. Eat what you want, bathe lots and just take it easy. Get massages, facials and pedicures etc ? anything to make you feel a bit better.

Hi, just wanted to send lots of sympathy. Dotty38 describes how i felt, like i had the flu for about 6 weeks. I'm 14 weeks now (expecting twins) and am starting to feel much better, so there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The only things that really helped were to rest as much as possible and try and distract myself with tv/reading. I found i could keep simple things like bowls of cereal down, and try and drink as much water as you can. Are you taking any supplements? An iron tonic like Floradix could help.

Same boat here, nearly 10 weeks and feel sick 24hrs of the day and feel like i have the flu. Coping with looking after a 21 month old as well is not much fun, nearly made DH stay home today, DD will have to watch alot of cbeebies today. Sickness twice as bad as with DD - getting worried its twins pollyblue!

hahahaha Tapster - I started feeling really ill at about 6 weeks, much worse than i'd felt with dd and it was that that made me suspect twins. And blow me down, it is twins....! And God bless CBeebies, dd has been plonked in front of that a fair bit recently......hope everyone soon starts to feel a lot better.

Hi,

I am only 8 weeks and have had the most hideous nausea and sickness (along with that truly horrid horrid taste in my mouth) since week 5!

I have tried everything, crackers, ginger, sea bands, carbonated water, flat lemonade and nothing... The only thing that has made me feel slightly better is those ice lollies with the ice cream in the middle (I have had 5 today) and really really strong flavoured crisps!

It's my first pregnancy and no one really prepares you for it!

Report
Cosmogirl · 19/08/2008 17:01

Hi,

Babybolat - agree with your comment that no one prepares you for it. This is my first preg and I had no idea how awful the nausea would be and how my whole relationship to food would change overnight. I am 8 weeks too with my first preg and have been feeling like this since week 6.

Anyone who needs support, feel free to join us on the Tips For Nausea thread on this board. There are a few of us on there who are struggling and supporting each other. There is no judgement there and you can moan as much as you like .

Oh I feel your pain

I wsa like this at 6 weeks and ended up in hospital on a drip cos i had high ketones in urine cos I was so dehydrated.

I thought I was going to die
BP was very low, muscles ached so was dizzy and feeling like shit

TBH I wasnt really sick all that much so how I went into so much dehydration is a bit of a mystery.

I had 3 weeks in bed thinking life could not be any worse

In fact I started a thread about it
I drank lots of lucozade, ate pizza which was about the only thing I could stomach
and slowly built myself up

Last Thursday I started to feel a bit better and by Monday I FELT HUMAN AGAIN

Sadly it meant going back to work

I was incapable of doing anything includinG looking after dd 2.7

I was horrified at having to cope with it for another 7 months but thank god it has gone.

Please get your urine checked out as you may need a drip

I'm 12 weeks now and still chucking - have had a relapse. Do you think there's a chance that there is a final surge of hormones before the placenta kicks in? Mind, my last two pregs it lasted til 21 weeks so anything less is a bonus, but am just so sick of being sick.

And do you know, there's nothing worse than being sick and a chunk of it coming up, sticking in your throat and refusing to re-emerge. URRRRGGHHHHH. Makes me want to cry!!!!

Hey slickbird - your post made me laugh so much! It is horrific - this morning I had a bit of nectarine that just wouldn't budge!! but 21 weeks!! - how scary is that, I have kind of got my heart set on the fact that I will get to 12 weeks and all will be well again - mine started at week 5 and is still going strong!

Babybloat - so it's not just me then with the old 'sticking action'?? Oh it's so grim! I am sure you will get better sooner rather than later. Most people do, and only my friend and I lasted as long as that, everyone else I know stopped at the normal time, so fingers crossed for you. I'm just hoping to be a bit more normal this time too!!

Oh sympathies it is just awful, I remember sitting in the canteen at work and having to fully hold my breath between bites of food to let my stomach turn over (nice).

I had awful ms and general crappyness with dd, compounded by the fact that I had a constant pounding headache which peaked to a roar whenever I vomitted (I used to collapse on the bathroom floor in cold sweats sobbing after every bout)...but I did wake up one morning at about 14 weeks and after a few hours noticed I felt fine, was so happy, and had no ms at all with ds.

Just hang in there, not long to go hopefully.
