Oh the shame, is there no dignity left! Found this out after waiting for 3.5hrs on the labour ward for an available doctor. Had to listen to several (noisy) labouring women which was interesting.

What is even more embarrassing is that this is my second baby so you would think I would know better now . They were very nice about it and I got to have a sleep without being disturbed by my 2.5year old DD

I bet it happens all the time! Don't worry about it. I'm sure they have seen a lot worse! ie, pooing in labour? Now that is embarrasing, especially when you had no idea and DP drops it into conversation in front of your friends

I did the same thing with my 1ds. I went to hosp all ready to have a baby. The person who checked me wasn't satisfied with the strips they used to check so she decided to do the spec check. The bed in the room wasn't tall enough to give her a comfy seat so she says I need to be propped up. Right after she said that she gets a page and decides to make the call right then. The nurse comes in and puts a basin upside down on the bed and tells me to put my hips on top of it (due any time and she wants me to "slide" onto this thing that is about 7 inches higher than the bed. I am dying and to this day I don't know why I stayed for this torture. She then proceeds (still on the phone) to do the spec exam but she can't get a good look so she switches specs and still hasn't said anything directly to me. The curtain was left open so anyone walking by was able to get a good look at my unpresentable side. 10 min later she declares that she doesn't think it is a rupture and I can go back home. False alarm. She leaves and the nurse helps me off the perch and helps me sit up. I think that was the most humiliation possible! The nurse told me (she felt sorry for me I think) that it was probably the baby kicking my bladder. She also told me that the amniotic fluid doesn't stop coming out when it is ruptured until the baby comes out. Good to know! Now if I continue to leak... then I'll grab my basin and head to the hospital! I also found out later that there is no rush as long as precautions are taken to not introduce bacteria in the birth canal. Apparently it can take even up to 4 days for a body to go into labor after a rupture! I would have to agree though that hubby mentioning pooing in labor would have been worse!

lol I did this too. I was in hospital anyway with grade 4 pp and had had a slight bleed/scare 2 days earlier so when I woke up in the middle of the night to find the bed soaking wet I assumed the worst and that my waters had broken. Called midwives who checked me over including sniffing the bedsheets (eeeewwwww!) and told/reassured me I just wet myself. Never felt so relieved and embarrassed both at the same time.

ha! i'm so glad you said this. I think I might have had the very same - in the sense that i spent 3 hours in the labour ward last monday because I/they thought my waters might have broken early. In the end they gave me medication for a slight infection... but I kind of thought they might have made that up in order to make me feel better about being a total idiot.

Pregnancy is really scary and hard sometimes though!

so glad I am not alone, to be fair the staff were lovely and said it was always worthwhile being seen as you never know.

So I can now add incontinence to my list of ailments: leaking breasts, stretch marks, wind, stiffness, heartburn and now incontinence - lovely!

LOL, this happened to me too. I rushed out to Tesco because I thought my water had broken and I didn't have any maternity pads!!

Baby was breech and must have kicked me in the bladder!

oh I think this may have happened to me also
the staff didn't actually SAY so but...
I had a friend with me for moral support and I think she was pretty sure that was what had happened

When I was pg with dd I had a craving for a bacon sandwich but half way through it I knew I was going to be sick and ran to the downstairs loo. I vomitted so hard that I wet myself. I opened the door to find dh standing there and I had a pee patch down my legs so he thought my waters had broken and started panicking until I told him I had wet myself. The glamour of pregnancy.

I wet myself halfway between the car and our bathroom in front of DH when about 36wks pg. It happened so quick that before I knew it I was stood in an enormous flood with DH looking like . He still reminds me about it.

this happened to me at weeks 19... i went to the nearest A&E in tears only to be told that this hospital does not deal with pregnancy or anything related with babies!! so they hook me up on some stuff and told me they were transferring me to the nearest hosp with ob-gyno facilities... in the end i went to MY hospital and they checked me and i was fine...
it was just pee and i must have a very weak bladder and now i wear pantyliners everyday....
