I can't believe I'm pregnant - anyone else felt like this?

Am 11+1, my morning sickness has been gone for over a week now (huzzah!) and am not showing yet (although have expanded a bit) I'm going through a phase where I just can't believe I'm pregnant! I'm sure this must be really common plus I've got my dating scan next week so will be ok after that but would appreciate some reassurance from others who have had this feeling.

Congratulations!

If it helps, I remember walking into the scan feeling as though I was about to be exposed as a fraud - that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax.

There was a baby in there though! Getting the first pic will probably make it seem more real!

yes it's normal to feel like that I did with DD until she started moving.

It all felt a bit false to me until we saw the baby on the scan. Then I blubbed and rushed out to start buying baby things....

I think it is normal to worry that it's all in your mind and the scan won't show anything. I felt like that with both of mine made worse the second time when the lady doing the scan was fairly new and scanned my stomach not my womb so there was a big black void... My heart sank and was about to cry when she moved the gadget down a bit and I saw a perfect little baby.

good luck with the scan

Yes I felt/feel exactly the same - wasn't expecting to get pregnant (although happy that I am) and it all felt like a big practical joke. I felt stupid avoiding things I wasn't meant to eat because some plastic test told me I was pregnant - felt like not doing something in case it upset father christmas or the tooth fairy!!

Just had my 12 week scan this week, and it felt real for a while after that but now it feels like I made it up again. And that's despite being sick at least 3 times a day!

I honestly don't think I'll believe it fully until I can feel the baby moving.

enjoy the scan, and keep the picture close to remind you it really is true!

Hello I saw this thread and was so pleased am not alone....I feel exactly the same. Am 11+3 haven't felt that bad, except rather tired - not even real morning sickness, not put on any weight and basically feel like a big fraud.
Am terrfiied of going for scan next week and them throwing me out as a fantasist, as all I have is several positive pregnancy tests. DH is really excited and cannot understand why I am being so low-key - but nothing seems real (not helped by the fact it has taken years for this to happen)

i felt like this with my first (twin) preg....convinced they would tell me nothing was there and then laff when i told them which preg tests i used to confirm things "oh you used BOOTS, EVERYONE knows they are wholely inaccurate"....but no, instead they told me it was TWO - if I hadn't have been lying down I would have fainted!

This time, my symptoms were worse (so irrational preg brain had me convinced it was triplets), so was very sure i was pregs and when the scan confirmed just the one healthy bean I nearly kissed the sonographer!

I'm convinced i can feel the 'quickening' already too, which is making it feel real.

hi babyignoramus, i know exactly how you feel. It feels so weird that it IS actually happening to you out of all people! I had a sacn on Monday and saw my baby jumping up and down, saw even little cute fingers and got very cute photos... and although it made it really realistic for my DH, I still sometimes feel in the back of my mind that it is like a dream. I have a bump already at 13 weeks AND i had the scan, but all this feels very unreal to me, like a dream so you are not alone I do talk to my baby bump though when I do things....

I felt like this first time round, which took a while to happen, and this time, which took no time at all to happen (first "attempt").

Hope your scan is reassuring.

Yes, I actually said to the sonographer that I hadn't believed anything was in there and she said 'well there is!', You'll believe it when you start getting kicked day and night!

Congratulations pregnant ladies I felt exactly the same, disbelieving, convinced the scan would show nothing there and so on...now I'm due in 3 weeks and still can't quite believe I'm going to be a mum!

Oh thank goodness!! I was really convinced it was just me!! I am 11+4 today and feel like a total fraud too! i have immense fatigue and a slightly thick waistline but no sickness, no bump and I do feel as though I am not really pregnant!! I have my scan on Tuesday (12th) and like a lot of you I also feel like I am going to turn up and be laughed out of the building...I think I have almost managed to convince myself I'm not pregnant! Fingers crossed for tuesday though!!

Glad to hear I am not alone with these crazt thoughts!!!!

Congratulations x I didnt 'feel' pregnant until I started showing at around 15 weeks, I also did 4 tests just to be sure!! I found that buying baby clothes helped loads and was a great excuse for a shopping spree. Good luck x

I am 36 weeks today and I still don't always 'feel' pregnant, obviously I know that I am because my stomach is massive and the baby is booting me about the place, but I just can't get my head around the fact that in about 4 weeks time I will have a baby and it will no longer just be me and my DP. I honestly feel like I keep forgetting that it's me that's pregnant and not just someone I know, as that's how it feels a lot of the time!

With my first we set-up the crib when I was 36 weeks as I was being induced at 37.

I can remember standing looking into the empty crib in the middle of the night trying to imagine a baby laying there. It didn't seem real at all.

I cired when I found out with dd1.
I went to the labour ward still slightly bemused that I'd leave with a baby.
I look at dd1 now at 12 and think where did she come from?

I have 2 dds now, always loved, always wanted, always around!

I have to confess to a small freak-out session a couple of nights ago brought on by the fact that it was exactly a month until my EDD - I totally freaked that my life would never be the same again, that it'll never be just me and my DP, and that I am actually going to have a baby, I just couldn't get my head round that last part, and I have been so excited this whole time about being pregnant and ttc and all that, it's odd, and it seems, quite natural!

I have just seen a tiny heartbeat in a tiny 8mm baby at a scan - I am pregnant - I can't believe it - perfectly normal!

Meep - It's brilliant isn't it! Is this your first? I didn't know what I'd feel when I went into the scan, I thought I probably wouldn't feel anything actually, but instead I was so overwhelmed, if it had been just me I probably would've cried.

Cyteen - Well at least I'm not the only one then!!

lollipopmother, I don't think anything can prepare you for the shock of actually having a baby in your life. Not the giving birth but the baby. It's a cliche but it is life changing. Enjoy the last few weeks of being totally self indulgent.

I felt rubbish with my 1st, now 2 1/4, I believed i was preg and relished every min!
Now I'm in my 7th month with my second and it still doesnt feel real despite having about 5 scans to date, a huge and rapidly expanding bump, and a very active little one. Its only when I get a kick I'm like oh yeah, you're in there aren't you. I think its cos I feel better this time around!
