And did you have a light period?

i came off the pill and had a very light withdrawal bleed...tested a month later got negative result, tested two weeks after that another negative, tested two weeks after that and got a positive - turns out I was 7 weeks when I finally got my positive and just under 5 weeks when I got the final negative (was convinced my body was buggered after the pill and literally about to make a appt with docs to see what was wrong!)

Great - thats one positive story x

i was a week overdue which is unusual for me but did three tests in a row and they were negative, so just assumed that was that.
'that' turned out to be ds, as confirmed by the fourth test i eventually did.
didnt have any sort of bleed tho. am now three days overdue and have again tested negative. who knows?

blot4 Thu 17-Jul-08 15:12:25

of course it depends on the length of your cycle. If you have a long cycle it is quite possible for you not to test positive until 5wks.

eekamoose Thu 17-Jul-08 15:20:06

Yes, I was a week overdue and getting really excited (had been trying for 9 months) then had what seemed like a normal period. Lasted several days. Had to use tampons etc. Was very disappointed. But another week on, I didn't feel "right" in myself. Something made me do a pg test - first time ever - got a big BFP. Now have a wonderful 7 year old daughter (and a second baby came along two and a half years later, no bleeding that time).

I tested negative on New Year's Eve, then blood tested positive 2 months later and turned out to be 14 weeks, so the neg test would have been at 5 weeks.

Hadn't had a period for a few months before that, so was trying to contact my consultant who has the most useless secretary ever - after two months of trying she offers me an appt the day after my GP told me I was pregnant.

babytime Thu 17-Jul-08 15:41:04

eekamoose - so that was 6 weeks at least.

i know i am clutching at straws here, I have tested already, BFN's in days leading up to period. Period was day late then I had the lightest period ever, it never really got going and kept stopping. I tested day I was due and after middle of the day, got two very faint lines which were both evaporation lines as they faded...

my period has finished earlier than it normally would. i still feel pregnant, got chalky white discharge this morning.

Bought another test and was going to test tomorrow morning with fmu. I would be five week so maybe I should wait another week?

I know i'm being desperate but if I had just had a normal period and not felt like this I could move on.

I know its only a weeks away before we can try again

i had 3 negatives and had BFP with DD at 12 weeks x

babytime Thu 17-Jul-08 16:23:06

really - that is mad!

Why was that?

Do you have really long cycles, mine are 28-30 days so about average

PetitFilou1 Thu 17-Jul-08 16:33:57

Yes - this time did not test positive until 6 weeks pregnant. dh was fed up with me spending money on tests but I knew I was pregnant so just kept going until I got the +.

TheMuppetMuggle Thu 17-Jul-08 20:05:57

not really, although my cycles were all over the place back then! i had a blood test to get the BFP

babytime Thu 17-Jul-08 20:09:36

Right - do I have the power to hold off testing until 6 weeks???

It would be five weeks today.

Yes, it was at least 6 weeks for me. By the time I did the test I was beginning to feel sick. Infact, I actually did it after getting back from a posh hen night dinner at The Oxo Tower and I couldn't really eat anything. Very unlike me! That's how I knew something was up!

Annabellemary Fri 18-Jul-08 12:59:35

Yes first time was 9 days late before the test showed positive and that was a hospital extremely sensitive test and the second time was over a week late again before showing positive.

babytime Fri 18-Jul-08 14:43:52

Well i resisted testing today!

I am going to wait until I am at least six weeks then if its neg I will not be so sad because it will be time to try again grin

And I can start convincing myself I am pregnant all over again!!!!!

Do you know why some people do not test pos until later?

So tired this evening and fighting to not test tomorrow morning.

I usally stay up until 12ish and last night I was out like a light at 10pm, at different points today I felt so tired and would have paid for a power nap.

Not like me to feel like this just after a period so if I am not pregnant I must be coming down with something.

6 weeks - i wish thurs would hurry up

Babytime - if you possibly can hold out to six weeks then you'll very probably know for sure, and save yourself some money as well! Are your boobs tender? I know you're excited but ...

ellasmum1 Sun 20-Jul-08 10:33:27

I am currently 35 weeks pregnant. I did tests for two weeks after period was late and they were negative (about 8 different ones,) until that time. Also I had about two days of v light period so told everyone i definately wasn't pregnant, but then when it didn't develop into normal period and my boobs were tender I kept testing every few days!

babytime Sun 20-Jul-08 13:15:08

My boobs are not feeling as sensitive as they were but in both my other pregnancies they didnt and they didnt grow either - how unlucky for me!!!

Went out last night and I couldnt drink and I honestly was trying to just to relax. I dont want to live like i am pregnant because there is a strong possibilty I am not. But only hadf one.

Just feel very tired and today I look quite healthy - clear skin, only time i normally have noce skin.

I will wait for six weeks.

Thanks for your support and info x

ellasmum1 - had period for five days but only 2.5 days was light and the rest either nothing or spotting. we'll see x

Hello everyone

Do you know why some people do not test pos until later?

Just wondering especially with people getting positives up to 6 days before they are due af.

I dont think I will ever test before I am due again, it just causes heartache and you probably spot a lot more chemical pregnancies that you never would have known about if you waited to test after your af was due

Nemoandthefishes Sun 20-Jul-08 18:19:47

ITs strange because with DS and with my MMC I didnt show as being pregnant until 9wks or so on a test but with dd1 she showed 9 days before AF was due and dd2 showed 2 days before..all of them were with cheap ebay etests.

beanieb Sun 20-Jul-08 18:22:36

In a small cases there are women who don't produce high levels of the hormones released during pregnancy so some women don't get a positive for ages. It's rare though I think, a bit like having a 'period' all the way through a pregnancy is rare.

Nemoandthefishes Sun 20-Jul-08 18:23:36

oh also had bleeds like period with both ds and dd2

amberflower Sun 20-Jul-08 18:59:40

When I conceived my son, I tested around the time my period was due - had come off the pill some three months earlier and had 3 cycles each around 28 days. So I tested at day 28 and every three days or so thereafter. Nothing, no BFP but no period either.

Went to the doctor who suggested waiting at least another WEEK!! but that's what I did in the end, and got BFP a good 15 days after the date I'd thought my period would have been due.

When we went for the 13 week scan there was the baby...but I was only 11 weeks pregnant. I'd actually ovulated and conceived around day 28 - which was when I'd thought my period was due! Obviously a very strange cycle that month, but the baby's now a vibrantly healthy four year old having a strop about bathtime, so just goes to show that your body can do odd things but still function perfectly well!

Good luck, anyway. Since that baby we've been enduring a 2.5 year struggle to conceive a second child, including 2 MCs, and I know exactly what it's like to hope so badly that you're pregnant that you almost hallucinate the symptoms...I hope you get the result you want x
