Really thirsty in early pregnancy

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 7 weeks today and for the last couple of weeks I've been soooo thirsty! I'm a bit concerned as I know that can be a sympton of diabetes and obviously there's the risk of developing gestational diabetes. I'm seeing the midwife for the first time next week so I'm going to tell her then but in the meantime would welcome any input!

I would say, listen to your body and drin plenty, and, of course, mention to your m/w

I was dreadfully thirsty in early pregnancy, especially at night and could easily go through a pint of water every night whilst in bed. It's passed now, I'm 15+1.

Worth getting it checked out although I showed no signs of diabetes.

OOO me too. I am 5+5 weeks pg and the past few days I have been much thirstier than normal. I just figure that I need more water than normal and tbh I probably don't normally drink enough water so I am now drinking a much healthier amount.

I was really thirsty too in the first few weeks. Not having twins and havn't got gestational (or any other type of ) diabestes. Did have terrible hyperemisis though, any hunger, thirst and desire to eat or drink dissapeared after 8 weeks. 30 wweks now.

I think it's quite normal. It's not just extra the blood it's other fluids you're making too. It says in my pregnancy book to be concerned if you're drinking loads more but not weeing very much.

I had this in the first trimester where I just had to drink loads of water all of a sudden. It tailed off in the second trimester but I always knew when I was due for a growth spurt as I would get really thirsty for about a week before. Now I'm 36 weeks and having to remind myself drink loads of water othrwise I get dehydrated, but in those first 3 months I was soooo thirsty quite a lot of the time.

Hmmm. houseofmirth I haven't been weeing much more than normal - but it's hard to judge as I tend to pee quite often anyway!

Just to say glad I found this, I'm drinking about 5 pints a day at the moment at 8 weeks pregnant. Going to check it out with my midwife, but on the whole just letting my body have water if it wants it (could be worse, could be Stella)

14+2 weeks, and all I seem to drink is water. I'm never thirsty, but the feeling I get gulping down a big glass of cold water is great DP watched in amazement one night as I sat with 3 pint glasses infront of me and downed the lot in the space of 5 minutes. Seems to have worn off abit now though, i'm just drinking a healthy amount rather than cups of tea by the dozen like when I wasn't pg!

SheWillBeLoved, that sounds like me, thank you for making me feel normal!

You're welcome Gentle! It's only natural we're gonna need more water, the extra work our body is doing is amazing! As long as no one is drinking really dangerous amounts. . hard to believe there is a dangerous amount of water (!) then I don't see a problem

Quite right, as I said to my bloke earlier this evening "I think I need a bit more steam in the kettle!"

I think it IS possible to drink too much water, I seem to remember a story about someone who had taken ecstasy and was terrified of dehydration and drank about 20 pints in 2 hours and made herself poorly... but that's the only one I've ever heard and the circumstances are a LEETLE different!

Yeah, water poisoning, pretty hardcore if you ask me i'd feel like a bit of an eejit going to A&E with that one!

I'm nearly 16 weeks pg and I'm still constantly thirsty, I drink gallons but strangely don't actually wee that much (sorry if TMI).
I think it's quite normal, told my MW about it and she didnt sound too concerned about it.
I think it's cos your body needs extra water to make produce the extra cells and blood.

I drank loads too and didn't pee a corresponding amount (what is it doing with all that water? Is it constructing a plunge pool or jacuzzi in there?!); I was even having a big bottle of water on my desk and going to bed with a glass too. If I didn't get plenty to drink I got really strong dehydration lines/wrinkles on the inside of my fingers.

I don't have any kind of diabetes and there's definitely just the one in there, so I don't think it can automatically mean diabetes or twins!

Is this Chinese whispers?? Could thirst signify having twins? I'm 10 weeks and an intuitive friend (who called me up to tell me I' was pregnant) thought there might be 2. I dismissed this completely as there are no twins in either family. Since discovered FIL had twin sisters who died at birth........AND I'm very thirsty.
