I am booked into have a stretch and sweep. Has anyone had one? If so what is it like ie painful, and most importantly of all did it work?

Cheers and beers for any advice. xx

I had a sweep with dd1. It was more uncomfortable than painful. Unfortunately it didn't work and I had to be induced.
Best of luck xxx

I had one with ds1 but it was ineffective and I was induced.

No need with ds2 - a week early and the speed of lightening - OUCH!

With ds3 I had about 3 - gave me nasty period type cramps afterwards and I did have some show - the third one was the day before I had ds3 but I think it's hard to tell if the sweep does anything or if you would have gone into labour.

If you are at the end of your tether (I was cos it was August and bloody boiling) it's worth a go!

Good luck!

I had one with both dds - both worked a treat and I was in labour the next morning. Good luck x

I had one with dd, and had her 3 1/2 hrs later! I was in the labour ward with pains(5 days overdue) and they said I wasn't dilated and I was due a strech and sweep the next day anyway,so they did it and sent me upstairs. As everyone else said it's more uncomfortable than painful. Good luck

I had one but it didn't work. Uncomfortable and very odd feeling - a bit like an internal exam when in labour.

Only works if your baby is weeeell down.

I had one and it caused my hind waters to break 2 days later... No labour though.

Desperate not to be induced 48 hours later, so had another one the day after waters broke (plus MUCH bouncing on birthing ball) and labour began in earnest that night. Baby born after four fast and furious hours.

Was convinced it was a combination of sweep plus VERY active birth.

Was 5 cm dilated at 7am, baby born 45 minutes later!!! (I did not lie down, or sit down once, just marched around madly like a woman possessed!)

was booked in for one, but baby came along of her own accord the day before. Advice from a MW was also to have sex within 2hrs of the sweep with you on all 4s

I had a sweep when I was 5 days over. It was just like having a smear. Had it sone on the Thursday morning and by 9pm that night started to have period like pains and had my dd at 11.56 the next day

I had 2, more like slightly uncomfortable poking and rumaging than painful. I think the 2nd one started to stir things in to action but I just had a show then was induced a few days later anyway as had still not gone in to labour properly.
