It's normal to feel desperate when you have been trying for a while. Do you have a specific diagnosis?

We were told we would never conceive without IVF when Clomid lead to OHSS. A month after that we gave up treatment. I went to one acupuncture session and got pregnant that day.

I'm also pregnant right now with our second child - no periods between to the two, I'm still breastfeeding.

I've had two miscarriages along the way but I think you need to change your outlook. I used a hypnoconception CD which got rid of my belief that there was something wrong with me and that my body was unable to conceive without help.

Good luck to you - I know a lot of people who have succeeded and a lot who have given up and done something else instead. Both end up happy in the end.

Zoe-Sorry you are going through such a hard time. I have PCOS and DH has a low sperm count. We were TTC for four years. I got pregnant the cycle before we were due to start clomid. I had three sessions of hypnotherapy just before I got my BFP and firmly believe that is what did it.

Aha! SNAP! I have PCOS too - or I did have. I don't seem to have any problems post DD!

Acupuncture can stimulate ovulation and also it can help if you are taking Clomid to counteract the (actually quite nasty) side effects. It can also regulate your periods. Personally knowing as much as I do now, I would have gone there first rather than subjecting myself to the lap and dye/drugs/poking that is involved in fertility treatment!

FYI Clomid as well as giving me OHSS turned me into a crazy lady for a while. Be warned, it's like your worst PMS but for WEEKS!

It is very difficult dealing with pregnancy in others, esp. unwanted pregnancy. But look, every pregnancy is a sign that IT IS POSSIBLE and it can happen to you.

You need to get this.

Honestly best £14 I ever spent.

Yes take the folic acid. Clean up your diet. Act as if you are pregnant already (in terms of looking after yourself.)

BTW you might want to post on the conception board -there are loads of Clomiders over there.

Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome - something you don't want to get - it's when the clomid overstimulates the ovaries they swell, you get very ill and in pain and have to go into hospital and discontinue treatment.

Clomid side effects here

Acupuncture - here

You do need to stay focused, hence my suggesting the CD - listen to it every night and see how chilled you become about the whole thing.

(by the way if you post in capitals it's considered shouting - people will get cross with you )

Don't worry it doesn't offend me particularly -but others get cross.

Do you have weight to lose as well? that can make a huge difference (not least because you won't suffer so many side effects if you don't have excess fat - fat increases your oestrogen levels which increases your likelihood of having hormonal swings - made worse by Clomid).

12 stone isn't too bad actually. Trying to conceive can be helped massively by weight loss yes, it also cuts your chance of miscarriage. When I conceived DD I was about 11 stone. When I conceived this pregnancy I was under 10.

Acupuncture can help you lose weight as well as sorting your hormone issues/ovulation. Weight watchers though I found completely useless, lots of women sitting around moaning about how many points they could eat. I used the Paul McKenna CDs - lost a stone in a month after I had DD - twas great! Much less hassle than having to think about what you eat.

Exercise is really important too though. Losing weight is no good without exercise because you mainly lose water and you don't change your lifestyle so you keep it off.

Half price at Waterstones at the mo as well. Swimming and cycling are both great. Anything which you can do regularly is good. You need to fit it into your lifestyle.

Concentrating on getting yourself into peak physical condition is a marvellous idea. If nothing else, it'll really help see you through pregnancy. Plus you have to be fit when the little buggers start running riot round the house

Dear Zoeypoey44,

I have been where you are. The best thing to do I think is trust your own instincts, whatever friends, doctors or anyone else says. I had consultants in hospitals refusing to refer me to Assisted Conception Units because there was nothing obviously wrong. I thought there was and
in fact I was right. In the end (after 4 years and 2 ectopic pregnancies) I did get a diagnosis, blocked tubes.
The only treatment for me was IVF which was sucessful.
I hope you find a method that is right for you and a baby comes along soon.

i think every woman knows i knew right from starting ttc that something wasn't right i just had to wait a yeah before i could have bloods done and then another 3 years of tests!! i sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with being on the depo injection (pill) that stops you ovulating and then maybe ur body can struggle to kick start its self... o i dunno there is so many explanations... im glad the ivf was sucessful!

Hi zoe

If you've got PCOS you might find the verity site useful - www.verity-pcos.org.uk. There's a message board with a conception area full of women going through the same as you. Hope it's helpful.
