Nursery chair... worth it?

I'm looking at starting the baby's nursery soon and wondering if people actually got use out of a chair?
If so, which are people's favourites?

No. It’s not. You’re not feeding a baby for hours in a chair in the nursery - you’re either watching Netflix on the sofa or you’re in bed, because who wants to get out of bed to feed in a cold chair at 3am?!

Looks lovely, but totally impractical Flowers

I got use out of a gliding one with footstool for feeds in the night when I didn’t want to nod off in bed. It was useful for about 3 months as I now cosleep. I say but second hand then you can resell for same and there are lots out there.

Meant to add; I got given one for DS2. I had given it away by the time DS3 arrived.

I got an IKEA Poang chair and added a few cushions and blankets for extra comfort and warmth. I love my chair.

Nope, there was no TV in Dd's room so I always went downstairs.

I loved mine. I found myself falling asleep in bed whilst feeding but taking myself out of the bed to the chair (with a blanket for my legs) was great as I stayed awake and comfortable but being upright I didn’t doze off. The chair moved into the nursery with the baby eventually and we’d sit and snuggle in it whilst having a bedtime bottle or reading books. I got mine second hand tho - there are lots out there. It was as good as new. It’s a tutti bambini and I think I paid £60 second hand. It’s just waiting for it’s second use now!

I did exactly this and love it still. We still cuddle up in it now for bedtime milk and stories (my little one is 12 months)

Still using mine and my youngest is almost 4. They love sitting on it and rocking.

I FF so had to get out of bed anyway so took my baby into his room to feed when he was little and then he was in there at 6 months. Had a thick blanket on me so I was perfectly cosy. Got mine from John Lewis. Not pretty but so so comfy.

I don't think it's good to take a baby downstairs with lights on, TV on while feeding and settling back to sleep. I usually stayed in bed in the dark and read my kindle, and if it was taking a while to settle her, and was disturbing my husband, I would get up and sit in the rocking chair in the nursery and rock her to sleep, or my husband would. Once she was in her nursery on her own at 6 months, we used it for reading to her, evening feed, night feeds as she wasn't a great sleeper and regularly woke for breast feeds until she was 16 months. The chair was invaluable, can't imagine not having one.

Due my 2nd very soon and have bought a smaller glider chair with a footstool to fit in the new nursery, but the other chair is in the bedroom of my now 3 year old where she sits to read or chill, and we use to read to her at night.

I also loved mine! We used it so much especially when he went into his own room and we needed somewhere to sit and settle him sometimes

Mine had tons of use for feeds and then stories. I had an IKEA wing armchair which made a perfect feeding chair.

Another one here who got the IKEA poang chair and added large soft throw and cushions.

Loved mine but only came into its own once baby was in their own room not next to my bed. Also particularly handy as I breastfed until baby was a little over 2 so was a nice space to do that and story time before bed

For the first 6 months, whilst baby was in our room I just fed him in our bed so didn't need a chair. However when he went into his own room, it was the box room and not big enough for a nursing chair so I sat on a stool to feed her 😭 all the way until he was 20 months when he finally stopped night/bedtime feeds. If I had a bigger room for baby then I would definitely get a comfy chair!

I tried one when my DS was 5 months old. By then I thought it was too late but it is at the top of my list for things to buy for number 2! So comfy…

We got an IKEA poang for my eldests nursery and it is now in my youngest daughter's room. We used it loads.

I still sit in it to read bedtime stories!

IKEA Strandmonn is absolutely perfect for this job, softer arms than the poang and easier to get out of carrying a sleeping baby!

IKEA Poang chair here too and COULDN'T have been without it. Not necessarily just for bedtime/night feeds, but for sleepless nights due to teething or illness or all the vaccinations. Without a comfy chair to cuddle them in and then for me to sleep in next to their cot I would have been lying on the floor many nights 😂

Also go sit in and read books at bedtime. To me a chair of some kind is a must.

Good luck OP

I have four children and had a glider chair with my first. They were all in with me for the first 4-5 months but once they went into the nursery I did every bedtime feed / story in there. Still do it now and youngest is three. Any chair with a footstool will do though!

IKEA poang here too. Only downside is it creaks loudly which threatens to wake baby up.

Couldn’t be without a chair in the nursery. I rarely feed in bed (she possets/vomits a lot so in addition to mess I have to keep her upright-ish for quite a while after feeding… may as well sit comfortably). I barely ever feed on the sofa because I might fall asleep. Nursery chair is a must for me.

I got the Amazon style version of the Ikea chair; DS is 3 and we still use it every day - to have a cuddle, to sit and fold washing etc

Yep we have the Argos version of the IKEA rocking chair and use it multiple times daily. DS is 2.9 now. When he was tiny we did feeds on the sofa but when he got old enough to notice what was going on and we wanted to introduce a bedtime routine and keep overnight feeds quiet and dark it became absolutely essential. His nighttime routine is still to cuddle up in it for stories and milk before he gets into bed.
