Other peoples opinions during pregnancy

Hi all, just wondering how many people are struggling same as me.

Myself and my husband have the same views on my pregnancy; we're listening to my body to tell me when to stop doing things (I'm only 14 weeks along, so very capable of doing most things still), keeping nice and active, keeping to a healthy diet and trying to keep things as BPA free as possible (e.g. using glass dishes instead of plastic ones for lunch and having metal water bottles.. we can't cut all plastic out as so much food comes in it nowadays). All of this is to try and give the best start to our baby as possible, and to make the pregnancy easier for me.

Now we're not bringing these things up with people, as we don't want to come across as judgy, but when we get asked about things we're honest. For example I got asked at work why I'm eating a salad for lunch and from a glass dish and I told them it's to keep a healthy diet and to try and reduce the BPA.

Since then I've had a few comments about making sure I'm keeping everything BPA free and only eating salad like they're trying to take the mick.

It's especially annoying when I'm being told not to do anything active, even little things like carrying shopping in from the car by other family members. I'm tired already of being treated like an invalid and that making small changes that won't negatively impact on our child are being met with such a response, and people have only known for 2 weeks.

I imagine it only gets worse.. but please say it's not just me.

Who cares what anyone else thinks. Just get on with your day the best way you see fit.

It’s much worse when you’ve got a baby. Pregnancy and the multitude of opinions you’ll get is good training. On your salad and bowl thing you didn’t need to go into your BPA concerns and loads of plastic is now BPA free anyway. You could just have said you liked the dish or find it useful. People will definitely take the piss if you come across as overly precious. But you don’t have to listen to them.

Stop explaining.

I find it really hard too, but explaining only gives people a reason to argue or disagree. If you stop; there’s a lot less for them to comment about.

I’ve had the same comments about bringing heavy bags in… although one was from my midwife, so I’ve stopped!

Unfortunately parenting is a looooong slippery slope of comments OP and I hope you’re not easily offended by people’s well meaning advice. It happens ALL of the time. I’d just respond with a breezy “Oh I’m absolutely fine thank you. How’s things your end anyway?” Briefly addressing it and changing subject usually works.

Just stop explaining and do what you want.

I agree with Vallmo47. It continues long after your baby is born and the best way to deal with it is turn it round and ask them about themselves.
I remember a bloke at my previous place of work always asking me why I was eating rabbit food when I was eating small portions of seeds etc as I felt so full all the time towards the end! I just laughed at him. What did he know?

Unfortunately you either need to stand up for yourself or just ignore it. My in laws wouldn't let me carry a dining chair through from the other room....they are overweight smokers and I was 34 weeks and deadlifting 80kg at the gym still Hmm
