Balloon induction - experiences?

I had a Cook balloon fitted yesterday lunchtime to start an induction at 40+3. Had some awful cramps for a couple of hours but nothing since. I feel a constant urge to poo but can’t, it’s so uncomfortable! And feeling like I need to wee so often but nothing happening. Just not sure what’s normal and slightly worried that the lack of any pains means that it’s not doing what it should be doing. I’m going back at lunch to have it removed but just wondered if anyone had any experience of this method? It’s my first baby so they did say it was likely they’d need to manually break my waters rather than the balloon falling out itself and getting things started.

I had this two years ago. After removal i went into labour naturally 18 hours later although they had to break my waters to progress things, getting the balloon out is a lot easier than getting it put in which i felt was uncomfortable. i also had a few hours cramps at first and after the balloon came out i lost my mucus plug a few hours later.

@SBParker99 thanks for sharing. I’m just hoping it’s done something as I felt fine overnight. 🤞

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I’m just heading in to hospital to have it removed and be assessed. I’ll be super impressed if it’s dilated me enough to have my waters broken as it really hasn’t been bad at all other than the initial cramps and being slightly uncomfortable.

Fingers crossed for you @swiftt, did you have a sweep or anything before having it in?

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE no, my cervix was so closed and hard that they couldn’t even do a sweep! I had it out yesterday lunch time and had quite a vigorous sweep then. They were happy it had worked enough to be able to break my waters. But at home again waiting for a call to come in when they have a space. It’s a long old process!

@swiftt did they allow you home while you had it? I had a friend who had to be kept in during it but good to know if you’re allowed home while things progress
