Working alone on a department during pregnancy

Just wondering if anyone knows the rules on “single manning” a department eg in a supermarket during pregnancy? For example the petrol station or cafe. Is it requirement to have a second person with you at all times when pregnant?

Why would it be?

You should have a risk assessment to cover your needs during pregnancy. That doesn't necessarily mean not manning a single department, but it may mean what to do in event of needing the toilet, sitting down more often etc. Get HR to sort one out with you.

@Garman

Why would it be?

Only wondering because of increased hazards associated with those kind of places with chemicals, heavy lifting etc

Do they really let people work alone in petrol stations?

Definitely get a risk assessment. I’d question extra loo breaks as well, you’ll need those a bit later on!

The risk assessment should pick up everything else x
