Pregnancy

4 positive home tests, 1 negative doctors urine test

Hi Mums! I am new here and this is my first post.

I had two positive tests 6 days ago. Have been feeling cramps, aches, pains and bloating since then and constantly peeing!! Had a dizzy spell today and 111 advised I go to walk in centre. They did a negative urine test. Urine dipstick also showed a small amount of blood in urine. Dr said either my tests were false negative or early miscarriage. This didn’t feel right so I have done another two positive (analog and digital 1-2 weeks) tests at home this evening.

What is going on?!!
I am worried I am pregnant and may have a UTI? EPU were useless. 111 advised I go back to walk in centre. Any advice greatly appreciated!!!! Xx

The GPs use the little One Step strips, which can be hit and miss in terms of sensitivity.

She said her test was very accurate and it’s unlikely to be wrong. She didn’t give me any advice on what to expect if I was miscarrying. Or anything else about the blood in urine which apparently doesn’t even indicate miscarriage. I think I am still pregnant but I’m so stressed now and I still have this ache/pain on my lower left abdomen.

She was completely useless to be honest. I got the impression she didn’t understand why I was so shocked and upset given Im only 5 weeks 😢 I understand they are busy and see lots of patients however I’ve worked in healthcare for 12 years and would never be so dismissive or brief with such an important matter . 111 have advised I go back but I really don’t want to. It’s not the first time I have had problems with that hospital :( I guess I’ll just have to wait until Monday to see my GP :(

This happened to my friend - 4 positive home tests, went to the doctors, they did a dip test which was negative. She came away very confused. There was no doubting 9 months later though when she gave birth!

Can you go to your EPU?

Have you, or could you maybe get another test to do at home in the meantime? Xx

I did another two when I got home (both positive) and have some more to do tomorrow morning!! I know I’m still pregnant. I’m just concerned about this pain and possibility of UTI! Early pregnancy unit told me to wait to see my GP Monday :(

🙏🏻 Please let this be true for me!! I did drink a lot of water today so if their tests aren’t so sensitive maybe that’s why?!

are the lines getting darker etc?

Or they could have mixed the Urine samples up maybe!

Not wanting to worry you but the pains you mentioned up thread......is there perhaps any chance that your pregnancy could be ectopic? Having had two ectopics myself, I'm always on high alert.

Can you call an EPU? I'd be a little concerned about the pain in your side and they might be able to see you or offer some better advice? If you do decide to go back to the hospital (I would, can you go to a different one?) take your tests with you and if you have a new one do that there.

It's also very rare to have a false positive (multiple?), but a false negative is more likely- they shouldn't have dismissed your concerns so quickly, busy or not Confused

Same here, not wanting to worry you OP but I'd go back-

Yeah it was all so quick. I have my husband but otherwise feel so scared and alone! My immediate concern was ectopic. I know it’s normal to get aches and pains but this is my first pregnancy so I just don’t know!! The aching did go away when I was moving about but has come back now I’ve been sat for a while again. Maybe I should go back. She was the GP and I would go to urgent treatment centre now so it would be a different doctor. Gahhhhh!

I had exactly this at 5 weeks. Turns out I had a UTI and my urine was very diluted which is why the doctors test was negative but mine were positive. The doctor at the walk in centre even booked me in to the EGU to check if anything needed to be 'cleared out'. He's 5 now! Agree with others and go back to be seen again - you may need antibiotics and they can check for ectopic.

Ahhh that is just like me!! Did you have aches and cramping? It improves when I move about which is good I think? My back feels so tight so I’m hoping it’s just everything all moving! X

I had aches and needed to pee constantly. It was my first so I thought the increase in toilet trips was due to pregnancy but a couple of days and some pain later it was clear this wasn't the case! Hopefully it's the same and you can get some antibiotics, or your urine was just diluted. Hope you get some answers!

I've had 2 ectopics and whilst my hcg levels were very high most women who experience an ectopic have very low hcg levels and I would be concerned that you are 5 weeks and only getting 1-2 wks on clearblue digitals

Just bear in mind with it being the weekend - if you are in the U.K. - a&e and EPU won't scan you on a weekend and will just make you an appointment for next week

Update: back at the hospital. Lovely nurse 🙏🏻 No blood in urine and positive pregnancy test. Goodness knows who I saw earlier 😭 waiting to see the gynaecologist to rule out ectopic pregnancy - hopefully they can do that today 🤞🏻 Thank you all so much for your help xx

I am five weeks but only 1 week late, if that makes sense? We found out I was pregnant just this week. It’s all so confusing. Is that what it means by 1-2 weeks ?

Chances are they'll scan you if your seeing a gynaecologist and they'll be able to tell you how far along you are- dates go by the the first day of your last period, the 1-2 weeks tests are a bit confusing-

All done. No scan today as pain not severe - it is more of a cramp/dull ache. Abdominal examination was ok. Booked in for scan Tuesday 🤞🏻 Thank you so much everyone for your support and guidance xx

Morning update: had some constipation relief over night - feeling much better and less achey/bloated today. I’m quite happy to be extremely embarrassed if all this was, was constipation Blush 🤞🏻 What a rollercoaster this is and only one week in 😳 x

Uggghhh I my this happened to me!!!! 4 positive tests, drank alot during the day then went to the walk in center as i was having thrush and uti symptoms. Dipstick showed no uti. The doctor also sat me down and said the pregnancy test they did was negative, i told him I'd had 4 positives and I'd drunk alot which would have dilulted my urine. He basically said i was wrong and he was sorry and id eventually fall pregnant, left the center panicking and then an unknown number rang me telling me my pregnancy test had infact show a faint positive and they were sorry for the mistake. Im now 25 weeks along

It’s just so bad. I was an absolute mess leaving there yesterday! Thank goodness my husband refused to believe it and bought some more tests. Even when we went back later that evening the nurse said it was negative, so we showed her my two positives from earlier and gave her a new clear blue digital to use. A few minutes later I looked at her test again and there was a line! They just don’t wait long enough!

I’ve been feeling ok today but have got the cramping/ache in my left lower abdomen and lower back pain again. Fingers crossed for my scan on Tuesday!! X
