Lots of discharge @ 19 weeks pregnant TMI

Hi all,

Sorry for TMI post but is first baby and don't know what is normal or not.

Have been wearing pantyliners for most of my pregnancy due to heavier discharge but for past few days have noticed that sometimes it is so heavy it feels like I've wet myself. Seemed a bit yellowish also.

I tried to call my midwife to check but no answer. I rang my antenatal ward as well who said I should observe it for another 24 hours and then get in touch.

Has anyone experienced lots of discharge at this stage too? Slightly worried it may be amniotic fluid but trying desperately not to panick!

How much?
Does it smell?

@Sunny1112 it's hard to quantify. I wear a long Tena pantyliner and it seems to soak to my underwear despite this. Don't wear a pad at night and that seems to be fine as don't get any discharge then.

Smells a little bit. I had swabs and urine dips done a few weeks ago as felt like I constantly needed to go to the loo but all came back clear.

Had your midwife tested the discharge? They can do a little strip test to see if it's amniotic fluid

@YukoandHiro they haven't as I couldn't get hold of them today but that is useful to know so will try again tomorrow. Thanks!

Finger's crossed it is just discharge 🤞

I had something similar with my second, I can’t remember what stage but do believe it was around the same time I noticed it...I was worried my waters were leaking and was advised to go to the day unit. I think they swapped me and checked my cervix was closed, and discovered it was wee Blush, I had but on a lot of unnecessary weight during the pregnancy which didn’t help.
I’m sure it’s nothing but better to be safe then sorry, can you ask them to check you.

I'm nearly 31 weeks pregnant and have had a lot of watery discharge since around the start of the second trimester. There are people I talk to on a pregnancy group on here and on Facebook and many of them have had similar. Mine is a yellowish colour too if I'm wearing white underwear or a panty liner.

I've heard of others being asked by a midwife to wear a pad and to call back if it soaks through in a certain amount of time. I have only used partly liners and mentioned it to my midwife but she didn't seem worried. I have it some days but not every day.

I only ask for the below;
Infection
Call your midwife if you have vaginal discharge and
it smells bad
is green, brown or yellow
you feel itchy or sore around your vagina
you have pain when you wee.
This may mean you have an infection that needs to be treated.

But as pp discharge is relatively normal. But it’s deffo worth a call to the MW so you can rule stuff out and give you peace of mind to know it’s normal if nothing comes back

Thanks all. I'm thinking it may be urine (Blush) and/or discharge as there is an odour.

Either way good to get it checked out as you've said even if to rule out infection so will chase MW tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Just an update incase anyone comes across this in future...

I rang MW who sent me to antenatal day unit. I had the swab to see if amniotic fluid and fortunately it wasn't so they think it is urine Blush plus possible thrush.

They were really kind and all agreed did right thing to get it checked out so my advice would be don't be scared to ask

I'm 19wks2days and some days I feel the same. Not so much when I'm at home but when I'm at work and I've been moving around a lot I feel 'wetter' than usual.
I have today been given a prescription for thrush as had some discharge too so I've just posted to ask has anyone taken Caneston when pregnant and used the pessary as it's my first pregnancy and I'm a bit cautious with everything. Aargh! Almost half way there though!x

@penguin7 sounds like the exact same thing as me then! It is definitely worse in work when I'm up and moving about all day.

They offered me the pessary then and there but I've decided to wait for my swab results to make sure it is definitely thrush first. I'm just so relieved it's not my waters breaking early which is what they were worried about initially.

If it makes you feel better it was a obs &gynae registrar who also does fetal medicine who advised the pessary so it must be safe for use at our stage of pregancy.

I'm so relieved to be almost halfway. I've never found anything as stressful as pregnancy is turning out to be! X

@LunaDreams
Thank you for the reassurance, I will use the pessary as well as the cream.

I am so stressed with this pregnancy overthinking everything! I'm a worrier anyway so shouldn't be surprised I suppose.

I've started to worry over my 20wk scan now, I have it next Fri 14th May, just want everything to be ok, I've not had anything to say things are not ok, so fingers crossed! Also haven't felt baby yet I don't think...so that's on my mind too but I know with it being my first it could be a few more weeks yet.

@penguin7 I know exactly how you feel. I'm a natural worrier too and have become 10 times worse in pregnancy.

I am feeling nervous about 20 week scan too but also trying to stay positive and focus on the fact everything has been ok with baby to date.

Mine's on the 13th, hope yours goes well Smile x
