Brown Discharge at 5 weeks 4 days pregnant

Anne1987 · 04/05/2021 18:44

So today I started to have brown discharge and some pain in my tummy. Thankfully my Dr referred me to the EPAU for a scan on Friday (will be six weeks). I am feeling quite scared and concerned it could be ectopic. Anyone had any experience of this?

My last pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, so I am really concerned about this one. Any comments welcome x

I had this and went on to have a healthy pregnancy. I had bleeding a few times and went to the EPAU and scans showed everything was fine at 5 weeks but they asked me to come back at 7 to check for a heartbeat and it was there. I know that you’re going to worry (naturally) but I just wanted you to see at least one positive story. A little bleeding/spotting is pretty common in early pregnancy and they don’t really know why.

Another positive story!
I had this and everything turned out fine!
But going off pp 6 weeks is early for a scan so don’t be disheartened if you don’t see much, they will offer you to go back.

Try not to worry too much OP, brown usually represents old blood and it is normal to get pains in early pregnancy.

It's good your doctor has referred you, hopefully the scan can put your mind at ease - fingers crossed for you!🤞

@DoLallyTapMum @Astronaut8 @Lou98 thank you all for taking the time to post. It really has reassured me. I am just praying that the pregnancy is in the right place and then we can go from there - hopefully seeing a heartbeat the next week, if it isn't visible on Friday.

I also had brown discharge which increased over the days at about 5w4d too. (bit of blood and a clot too!) The GP sent me for a scan to rule out ectopic as I also had cramps and a particular one in the same spot to one side. I thought the worst but when I went for a scan there was a tiny bean in there with a heartbeat too! I was measuring exactly 6 weeks. I had subchorionic hematoma so they told me to take it easy. They never gave me a follow up appointment though so I'm still a little nervous. Fingers crossed for you though, sounds like bleeding can happen and its not always negative.

@Arb108 thank you for sharing. I am so glad you did not have an ectopic and you saw a heartbeat, I am keeping positive that this is also the case for me. How far are you now? I wish you all the best :)

I had this. Was convinced that the pregnancy wasn't going to stick. I was wrong. DD is now 10 but I haven't forgotten the fear of those early weeks. Hope everything goes well on Friday.

I’ve had ectopic and also bleeding which had 2 healthy pregnancies.. the ectopic bleeding was darker red coupled with shooting pain up from my vagina.. I had light cramps with brown discharge in each of pregnancies around the same time as you. Had scans at EPU and everything fine.. it’s very common. Hope this helps. It’s normal also to worry about the what ifs. It’s likely everything is fine xxxx

@Arb108 - how exciting so just over a week ahead of me. I find I worry myself, as so many people have such strong symptoms and mine are very mild - I keep telling myself that every pregnancy is different but it does worry me. I will be sure to update and let you know how I get on, really hope for positive news :)

@Anne1987 Mine are also mild which also doesn't help with the worry. As you say, every pregnancy is different. Do give us an update though and fingers crossed for Friday.

@Arb108 I will do. So nervous, but need to try and keep calm. Its the waiting as they scan, I am scarred from the last time at 11/12 weeks when they told me it was a missed misscarriage - was not a nice thing to see on the screen. BUT positive energy this time :)

@Anne1987 Ah same as me. I had a MMC too, back in January. Definitely positive energy this time.

@CagneyNYPD and @Peachee thank you for sharing your experiences and the outcomes, it has been reassuring . This time tomorrow I hope an ectopic is ruled out and maybe the heartbeat is showing already :) Its very worrying but will be relieved to know.

Hello all, I am so shocked and relieved. Our sweetpea was where it should be, measuring 6 weeks 1 day. To top it all off, we saw its heartbeat. I am was convinced something was wrong and cannot believe its OK. A long way to go, but amazing to see a heartbeat - last time we saw an empty sack at 11 weeks 2 days, so this has been a magical moment. Thank you all for your comments and kind words, this group offers great advice and reassurance. All being well, our sweetpea is due to enter the world NYE

@Anne1987 Wonderful news. Did they say what caused the spotting or discomfort or was it just standard pregnancy symptoms? NYE how exciting!

@Arb108 thank you and they didn't say anything. Said bleeding is very normal and the pain couldn't be explained.

@ProbablyGryffindor thank you, will take each step at a time but for now I feel very blessed and reassured. My husband has said that it might be a good idea to check again in a few weeks, but I will see how I get on x

@Anne1987 congrats!
I have had similar to you, get a scan on 20th so fingers crossed it's the same outcome! How have your symptoms been?

Report
Anne1987 · 07/05/2021 15:08

@willithappen thank you. In regards to the concerns, pain on right hand side (like you have when ovulating but stronger) and brown very watery discharge. I have had some stronger pregnancy symptoms than with my blighted ovum, mainly feeling sick and breast pain. I really hope you get the same outcome :) how far pregnant will you be on the 20th? As it can be hit or miss with seeing heartbeat at 6 weeks x
