Retroverted uterus and scans

Hi
I have a retroverted uterus and was wondering if sometimes this can make a difference with ultrasounds?

I had an transvaginal uss yesterday, judging by my LMP I should have been 6+6. At first she couldn't see anything but she pushed around different angles and then seen baby. She had difficulty locating and measuring it. Got 3 different measurements...9mm, 7.6mm, 6.4mm.
She said my measurements are not right and I am either less than I think (which I think I was potentially 6+3 by opks) or that it has stopped progressing. She thought she could see a flicker of a heartbeat.

Hi @Sarah5678
Sorry you’re going through this uncertainty.
I have a retroverted uterus, which can make it more difficult to scan/get a clear picture. Have they offered to rescan you? What were they able to date you at? Xx

The waiting is difficult, but I’m glad they will rescan you. There’s also a chance that you implanted later too. Babies are soo tiny that early on, it’s hard to get a good measurement. Try to keep your mind active.

With this pregnancy, I even had to have transvaginal us at my 12 week appointment, because it was difficult to get some measurements due to uterus.

Sorry you’re in limbo, look after yourself xx

@Sarah5678 Hi, I had an early scan last night and also have a retroverted uterus. The sonograph struggled but eventually found a blob and saw the tiniest heartbeat fluttering, just about. She said to fully anticipate difficulties with future scans probably up until at least 12 weeks.
I also measured a bit behind but she said it is just sooo tiny and so deep in the pelvis it's tricky getting an accurate measurement.
I hope all's okay with your next scan. Xx

I'm pregnant with 3rd baby with a retroverted uterus. It does make it a bit tricky but they get the job done, all of my 20 week scans have taken over half an hour, lots of jiggling around and had ot go back twice for 2 of them.

Its best to empty your bladder before scans with this, otherwise the bladder just tilts it even more. They are used to scanning all kinds of awkward anatomy so please don't worry, they will aks you to come back at 12 or 20 weeks of they aren't satisfied with images

I have a retroverted uterus that tilts to my left too.
It is much harder for them to do abdominal scans early on. It helps with TV scans if you put clenched fists under your hips, I have to do that at smear tests too.

Regarding dates, they can be off early on as babies have growth spurts rather than steady growth. I wouldn't recommend viability scans earlier than 8 weeks, unless something if wrong you will see a hb by that stage.

Thank you everyone for your info! @carefree thanks, we have been for a private scan and turned out my dates were a bit out but baby is also a tinker and hiding right in the side. But all is well, measuring 7 weeks 1 day at time of scan and good healthy heartbeat. Got my nhs repeat one tomorrow xx
